You can read my previous review below but I've been gone for a couple years and I have to tell you that nothing has changed here. The food is absolutely delicious and I would always suggest getting the miso ramen with different add-ons if they're willing to do that. There are a few items you can't get added on but most are there. One last thing I want to mention is that quail eggs do not taste right. I've tasted him there twice and the third time I had to have it go back because it just tasted so dang weird. I've been eating eggs and quilt eggs since I was a little girl same with seafood and all the other expensive items that go along with this restaurant and everything taste pretty legit but the quail eggs no bueno. I don't know what it is that they do to them but it must be a preservative type thing because the quail eggs in the US do not taste like this. Sometimes restaurants will give authentic taste from home, so in Taiwan maybe quill eggs taste like this but I've never been to Taiwan so I wouldn't know. As for America, this doesn't pass the smell test but everything in the restaurant does. I've even bought the packages of stuff that they sell exclusively for boiling point in the restaurant, I made some at home and oh my God it was delicious! Taste it just like boiling point so the last time I went there to get some I had to leave without it because they were so busy and none of the attendants had time to take care of what I needed. That said this restaurant needs to be much bigger, we waited almost 2 hours in our car just to get in and then once we got inside, it was a little bit longer, we noticed they were just bumping people if they were standing right there instead of seeing people and texting and like they said they would. Little disappointing but it's not their fault, I'm sure they have a lot of points they must hit for their monthly goals and in a small restaurant like this, it's easy to hit that as long as you keep the seats full. That's not fair to these poor hostesses and cooks, they look like they were run ragged. They never complained, even though you could feel the frustration they would look at you the smile on their face and try to please you as much as they could. My job is just to review the restaurant but if the management system is making the restaurant hard to go to cuz I don't come to any restaurant to watch the employees being treated badly, which is part of the customer experience. I would suggest the management company go to the uppers and boiling point until then that they need a bigger restaurant. I'm sure that they didn't realize when they built the restaurant about 8 years ago (That's when I realized they were there) that they didn't realize how popular Taiwanese food is out here. Hot pot in particular is crazy out here because it's the pho capital of the United States and hot soup and the Pacific Northwest go hand in hand. So to have hot soup with tons of fun stuff in it, they were going to be a popular hit no matter what. My son who only eats McDonald's consistently came here for his birthday last weekend and ate almost everything on his plate. This comes from a kid that wouldn't even try pho, he scarfed down all his food ate like eight shrimp and downed a tea, don't get me started on how delicious their teas are. I think milk tea is disgusting but when I drink the teas at boiling point they bowl me over. Anyway, so to make a long story short this place is excellent, be wary of the quail eggs, the restaurant needs to be bigger and move to a different place, soup is delicious and the Pacific Northwest but even more delicious and hot pot restaurants. As I was marking all the stars down I realized that the atmosphere had to be marked down to a two because there is literally no atmosphere except stress until you eat the food, everyone seems super rushed and the attendants Don't have a second to smile or frown, they have no time. I stopped a young lady to ask her for something and when she cut her breath she actually did smile so it's in there, you just have to give them...
Read moreAlways expect a wait, unless it is early morning, after lunch rush, or near closing. Keep in mind this is the busiest location, which is why wait times are longer.
Check in is through a tablet in store, and you get sent a text when your table is almost ready. They give a 15 minute hold on your table, and if you are not there by then, your table will be given up to the next in the waitlist. Open tables do not mean that there is no wait, and they are simply honoring their grace period before they give up the table to the next party in line.
Bigger tables are limited, and parties of more than 7 will be longer to accommodate, since they have to wait for tables to leave so that they can push them together. You may also speak with the host if you are okay with sitting at different tables instead of all together. You may also ask the host for an estimated wait time.
For ordering, there is a hanging qr code on the side of the table. There is 10 options of hot pot that are a personal size, for one serving. The 10 will never change, and there is one additional seasonal pot that changes periodically. Recommendation is to order one pot per person, unless you are not very hungry and plan to share. You can choose either a side of rice or vermicelli that comes free with your hot pot. Most pots you can choose spice level from 0-5; no spice, mild, medium, hot, and flaming. side note, it's helpful to servers if you clear the area in front of you so that they are able to put down your food.
Their service is very good, and they always will get you what you need or if something is wrong, they will fix it for you. Keep in mind to be patient and understanding, as it is incredibly busy. They are human, not robots, and make mistakes every once in awhile as it is a highly paced work environment with a lot of pressure to keep things clean, bring out food, take orders, help out customers, restock items, work quickly, while still catering to your needs. If you need help, simply flag down a server who is free, since no one is assigned to tables to help you out. Many servers are grabbing things or doing multiple tasks for other customers, so remember you are not the only one eating!
I always see people asking servers with their hands full or are busy for something. The servers are not being rude if they tell you "one moment" or "one second". I have seen customers getting angry because of this and can't seem to understand the entitlement.
For payment, you may either ask a server for the check, or walk up to the front counter to pay. They accept apple pay and most cards, but do not accept AMEX (American Express).
Overall my experience has always been pleasant, and my recommendation is to know what to expect, be patient, and kind to your servers as they are people too. I have been a returning customer for years and have always enjoyed eating here. My favorite pots are miso or milk cream curry. I have never once had a bad experience here. I've seen a lot of reviews about bad service or experience, but I believe they are very overly...
Read moreI was visiting Washington from California and I went to this hot pot place to get dinner with a group of friends I hadn't seen in a while. I want to emphasize how overwhelmingly mediocre this place is. It makes me agitated to say that I even spent money and time eating at this place. To begin, I'm a pescetarian. I understand that they have a vegetarian option, but I enjoy eating seafood when I can. I saw that they had a seafood bowl, but it unfortunately had pork as a topping and a meat broth. I thought that I could have just substituted the pork slices with tofu and asked for a veggie broth instead. Keep in mind, tofu is significantly cheaper than pork. I asked the person taking my order if I could switch out the topping. He told me that he couldn't because they couldn't switch out protein options. So you're telling me the people assembling my hot pot bowl couldn't just leave out the pork and put tofu in instead? I didn't really eat anything because I didn't feel like getting a veggie bowl. The server could have done a better job by suggesting something else or maybe he could have asked the people in the back to see if they could substitute the pork with tofu. If it's an actual policy that you can't substitute tofu with a meat option, then that's just bad business. Not to mention that the service is actually awful? I understand that it's busy, but I found the service to be embarrassing. Imagine having us wait 15 minutes for a server to come give us a bill and when we wanted to split the check, they tell us to go to the front because it'll make it easier for them? You're telling me you couldn't mention that in the beginning? Maybe don't hire incoherent people? Or at least train them better? Oh, and the tables weren't even wiped down properly when we got seated. There was still some oil and muck left by the previous patrons. I only had a week to spend up in Washington and I unfortunately wasted an evening trying this place. I thought this place was going to be good because single-serve hot pot places are typically decent in California. How do you even mess up hot pot? I would give this place 0 out of 5 stars if I could. I typically wouldn't drag a restaurant like this but Boiling Point is actually vile and not a good place. Don't be like me and waste your money or time here; it's not worth the price. This place is insulting, and I'm saying this as an...
