We visited Antoinette Bakery and CafĂ© on Main Street in the Tulsa Arts District. The bright, modern interior immediately set the tone, with soft classical music playing in the background. The stylish decor was chic and welcoming without feeling too fussy. If youâre in the mood to enjoy some fresh air, they offer a few small outdoor tables that are perfect for basking in the sunshine while enjoying your goodies.
At 2 p.m. on a Monday, the cafĂ© wasnât very busy, but there was a slow and steady flow of people. The staff were kind and helpful, which added to the overall vibe of the place.
The dessert display was a sight to behold! It was nearly impossible to choose, and my husband and I spent quite a bit of time just admiring the wide array of options. They have everything: cookies, cakes, pies, scones, croissants, and other delightful pastries. Each dessert looked more tempting than the last; we felt a bit like kids in a candy store, not knowing where to start. After much back and forth, we finally settled on the sea salt chocolate chip cookie. It ended up being one of the best cookies Iâve ever had. The texture was soft and chewy, and the sprinkle of sea salt added an extra layer of flavor that took the cookie to the next level. With each bite, I couldnât help but feel a wave of nostalgia. It reminded me of a cookie I used to get back in my hometown when I was a kid, which made the experience even sweeter.
We had initially planned to split just one treat, thinking weâd be able to resist the temptation of ordering more, but my husband had other ideas. His eyes locked onto the Lemon Crumb Bar, and before I knew it, he was back in line to grab one. Thank goodness he did! The Lemon Crumb Bar was divine. It had a crispy oatmeal crumb topping that contrasted perfectly with the silky, smooth lemon filling. The pie-crust-like bottom layer held everything together beautifully. I thought the sea salt cookie was unbeatable until I took a bite of the lemon bar. Suddenly, I wasnât so sure which was my favorite. The lemon bar left a wonderful taste in my mouth that lingered long after the last bite. My husband definitely made the right call with that one.
To pair with our treats, I ordered a small oat milk vanilla latte. Itâs worth noting that Antoinetteâs doesnât offer sugar-free syrups, so keep that in mind if thatâs something you prefer. They have lattes in two sizes: small and large. I opted for the small, which comes with one shot of espresso, and that was plenty for me. The latte was smooth and creamy, with no bitterness at all. My husband, on the other hand, is always looking for an extra caffeine boost, so he went for a large mocha. It came with two shots of espresso. He added caramel syrup and two extra shots of espresso, for a total of four. Yikes! Judging by how quickly he drank it, Iâd say he liked it.
As we sat, enjoying our drinks and treats, I couldnât help but notice some of the other items they had on display in the bakery. The main dessert case is just one of the many displays in Antoinetteâs. There was a wide variety of offerings, from chocolate push-pops to gooey butter cake and Rice Krispy treats. They even had take-and-bake chicken pot pies and breakfast sandwiches for those looking for something more savory. I was impressed by the diversity of their offerings and how they seemed to have something for every craving, whether youâre in the mood for sweet or savory.
I could easily see myself...
Read moreIt pains me to write a bad review. In fact this is my first one. My wife and I frequent Antoinette's about once or twice a week. Normally the food is nothing short of amazing. With fresh ingredients and new menu items daily, We sang the praises of Antionette Baking Company to all family and friends. This morning I went to the bakery to get 2 sausage biscuits. They did not warm them up at the bakery. I warmed them up at home. Both were absolutely raw in the middle. It was a simple mistake. It happens. I called them to let them know that the sausage was raw. After 4 attempts they finally answered the phone. The employee that answered the phone tried to explain that the sausage was made in house (yet another reason we went there) and the lack of nitrates would cause the meat to have a pink hue. If this was one employee that simply does not know how to prepare food and is completely unaware that pork that has been partially cooked and set aside for hours to cool is Disneyland for deadly bacteria, then perhaps I am overreacting. My intuition tells me that isn't the case here. My intention was to just alert them that they had an issue with the sausage, nothing more. The employees condescending attitude during the short conversation was nothing short on infuriating. While I was not looking for a refund, rebate or an alternate menu choice her "I'll look into it" flippant attitude and not even offering to make the purchase right was simply not acceptable. We will not be back. In the grand scheme of things, you wont even know we are gone. But overall you are missing out on 2 free advertising sources and formally loyal customers. I hope in the future when you offer a customer a $4 biscuit you give them a $4 product and the customer service...
Read moreThis is one of the best bakeries I've ever been to in my life! They had a Berkey water purifier for customers to help themselves to, which I hope they also use in their baking (I asked someone behind the counter, but she said she's not a baker so she didn't know). I had a sea salt chocolate chip cookie, and I think the other item was called a cinnamon sugar cookie. They were both outstanding. Not overly sweet. And the consistency of each was just great. The chewiness of the dough in the cinnamon sugar cookie (I think the tag said 'cookie' though it looked more like a donut), I believe that indicates it was boiled or fried, I forget which, as opposed to baked. Basically, the method that involves more effort and thus many shops stay away from, but leads to much better flavor and consistency. I can't wait to go to Tulsa again!
2/15/22 Update: I had a chance to go to Tulsa again a few weekends ago. It was only an overnight trip, so I made sure to come here both days. I was not disappointed! I believe the item I had my first day was called a yuzu cream pie. The pie filling was very good, as I expected, but I did not expect even the crust to be so exquisite. Most pie crusts, I find, are hard, dry, and flavorless. Not so with Antoinette! I ate it all. On the 2nd day, I decided to 'just' have a cinnamon roll. It was the best cinnamon roll of my life! Not overly sweet, a great consistency, and a good, strong...
