Stepping into Chimera Café on Main Street in the Arts District feels like entering a hip café similar to something you might find in Portland or Seattle, but with its own uniquely Tulsa vibe. The exposed brick walls, thoughtfully hung art pieces, and charming little flower arrangements at each table create an ambiance that is both cozy and chic. It’s a place where you can grab a quick bite or settle in for hours with a book or laptop. If indoor seating isn’t your thing, they’ve got a lovely outdoor eating area that’s perfect for soaking in the sunshine.
On this particular Monday afternoon, about 20 patrons were scattered around, sipping on coffee and enjoying their meals. The crowd was a diverse mix of people on laptops, friends catching up, and solo diners alike.
Chimera offers counter service. The staff was kind and helpful, making the ordering process a breeze. After placing my order, I took in the surroundings while waiting for my food. Something about this café feels familiar, even if it’s your first time. Chimera’s menu is a balance of healthy, whole foods with options for both vegans and carnivores. I couldn’t wait to try something new. I went with the Smoke and Mirror sandwich: adzuki strips (vegan bacon), smoky hummus, avocado, tomato, house pickles, and greens, finished with a chipotle crema.
When the sandwich arrived, I could immediately tell this was going to be a winner. The bread was fresh and soft, the adzuki strips were perfectly crispy, and the chipotle crema added just the right amount of smoky flavor. Every bite was a delightful mix of textures and flavors. I would order it again in a heartbeat. My sandwich came with a side of yellow carrots and hummus. The hummus and carrots were fine, nothing noteworthy, the sandwich was the true star of the meal.
To accompany my food, I ordered a House of the Rising Sun fresh-pressed juice. It’s a mix of beet, apple, carrot, lemon, lime, and ginger. As soon as I took a sip, I could feel the vitamins and nutrients flowing through my body. It was sweet, tart, and earthy all at the same time.
One thing I noticed but didn’t have time to explore fully was a music venue toward the back of the café. I’ll definitely be looking into that on my next visit. Between the food, drinks, and ambiance, I can see why people would come here for a bite and end up staying for a show.
Price-wise, Chimera is very reasonable for the quality they offer. My Smoke and Mirror sandwich was $13.50, and the House of the Rising Sun juice was $10, bringing the total to $23.50 before tax and tip. Given the freshness of the ingredients and wonderful flavors, I was happy to pay that.
All in all, Chimera Café hit the right notes. From the relaxed vibe to the fresh, healthy food, it’s a place I’ll come back to again. Whether you’re vegan, carnivore, or just someone who appreciates a well-crafted meal, Chimera has something for you. The fact that they have a dessert case and a full bar doesn’t hurt either.
Let’s just say, I’ve got no smoke and mirrors about this one. Chimera Café is a place that delivers on...
Read moreI have found great comfort in studying at chimera for my final year of undergrad. The fresh juice, the breakfast, the atmosphere, and the fast wifi have all proven to be worthy of five stars. Yesterday, though, that changed when staff members decided to play the same five ABBA songs on repeat for an hour. Usually I would not see this as a problem (ABBA is awesome), but the music was loud and extremely distracting. I politely asked a couple of baristas to change the playlist to something different and they responded that they were busy and hadn’t had time to change it (totally understand, I’m a server as well and I get it). I went back to my seat, thinking the issue had been resolved until staff members started playing Super Trooper three or four times in a row. They even peered over at my friend and I to see our reaction. This is a very difficult time in the semester and finding a welcoming environment to study in is hard as is. I find it incredibly discouraging that the staff members chose to blatantly disrespect me after I made a reasonable and polite request. I had to go up a second time and politely ask again, this time making my request to a tall man with a deep voice. He was much kinder and apologetic and immediately changed the station. I cannot fathom why employees would choose to make a regular customer uncomfortable and anxious, but they did and it was in very poor taste. If this was an accident, no harm no foul, but seeing as the baristas were watching my reaction, I can only assume that this was a purposeful aggression. I will be back, I still love the place, but I think the staff needs some revision/customer...
Read moreI visited this place per my friends suggestion. Not going to lie when I saw the menu and walked in I was actually thinking what the heck am I going to get here? This place looks to healthy. Wow, was I wrong and impressed!
This is a very hipster "cool" place to visit. This place features food all freshly grown in Oklahoma and all their food vendors are even featured on their menu and where their local farm is which is such a great local touch that you just don't get elsewhere. It's also nice knowing that these eggs are actually freshly cage free eggs rather than store bought.
I got a drip coffee and 2 tacos, 1 teenage riot and 1 other that I just forgot the name of, whoops! Anyways, each taco is $4.50 a taco which is pretty steep if you ask me but it is filled up pretty good.
The drip coffee was nothing to rave about next time i'll probably opt out for water. Besides that creamer and sugar isn't on your table it's in the corner so I'm pretty sure I spilled coffee walking back to our table.
The place was packed when we came Sunday morning we were lucky enough to find a seat but other people I did notice were standing around waiting for tables to open. This place just has local charm, the table markers after you place your order are alphabet letters just very all unique.
The baristas are friendly and get the long line moving which is also a huge plus.
If you're a carb lover and want to try something other than tacos they did offer bowls, home made scones which just looked divine and they had this chocolate covered donut that I...
