Root & Flower is a cute small spot in Vail Village with a full wine bar at night, and coffee and a few breakfast items during the day. They serve Two Arrows coffee and lots of espresso drinks.
I had the Two Arrows drip coffee which had more of an acidic taste which I'm sure was good for people who like that, but that's not my favorite type of conflict. It was definitely strong and served as it should be fine, grey mug.
They have a few breakfast sandwiches available, but they're delivered from another location so no modifications are possible, which is a bummer if you are, like me, a vegetarian, and like everything about a particular sandwich except say the meat on it.
I had the cheddar chive biscuit, which they heated for me in an oven. Kudos for not using a microwave which should never be in the same room as a biscuit. (I really wanted an egg sandwich on a biscuit) The biscuit had a lot of flavor and had good authentic biscuit texture.
They also have a quiche on their menu which mentions that it has meat in it, so I didn't order it. I later overheard the person behind the counter mentioning that today's quiche was in fact vegetarian, so I could have ordered it. Their menu is not particularly clear and it doesn't say anything like “ask about what today's quiche might be”, so I would suggest they consider being a little bit more opaque about what it is that they offer in terms of having a more thorough and accurate menu visible or available to patrons
I glanced at their evening menu on their website which only had two items on it, so not sure if that's accurate or not but it did look like a fun place to hang out as it was crowded and people inside...
Read moreThis is the worst experience I have had at any business, ever. A friend of ours recommended Root & Flower for it's great cocktails. We arrived on a Tuesday night around 9pm, after the Hot Summer Nights concert nearby. I ordered a glass of wine, my friends both ordered specialty cocktails. We were expecting decadent drinks, but what we got was closer to dive bar rum and cokes.
Bobby served the cocktails in plastic cup (although my chardonnay was served in an appropriate wine glass), which was shocking for $12 - $15 specialty cocktails. My friend asked about this, and the bartender went off the handle, violently yelling at us as he came towards us from behind the bar! No words can describe how horrified we were. He kept yelling about how many glasses get broken every night; and how he had planned to charge us 'only $10, but not if we're going to be ungrateful' (were we expected to assume this?); and that 'it's DJ night, what did we expect?' (we were unaware it was DJ night, and frankly didn't care, as we came for the supposedly amazing cocktails).
Despite our efforts to defuse the situation (because at this point Bobby was causing a scene) by telling him to forget it, he continued to yell at us with so much rage. I've honestly never experienced something like that before in my life. I can't believe that the management employees such an unstable person. We immediately paid our tab and got out of there as quickly as possible. I will never return to Root & Flower, and will continue to warn my friends of the violence they are in store for if they mistakenly find...

Limited menu... Fine. But though they pride themselves on craft cocktails, none are handmade per se. Rather, they are "batched" according to our waitress so that's why they can't accommodate any variations (such as making any one of them a virgin by simply not adding the alcohol). Huh? Yes, I've been a bartender... And this is simply odd.
Therefore, only two rather weird mocktails. The Bali makes you think tropical goodness and sunsets but it was so filled with turmeric to be pretty much undrinkable. A pinch of turmeric goes a long long way...
After voicing this to our waitress she defended the drink formulation and then quickly bailed out. No offer of something else. At a different restaurant last night (Swiss Chalet), my sister said nothing bad about her aperitif but our fabulous waitress noticed at the end of the fabulous meal that she'd not had but a sip. On her own, she removed it from the bill despite our protests. Now, that's service you don't find but clearly hope for.
Ok. Pricing. Nuts even by Vail standards.
Overall, a...
