As a first time diner, I was extremely disappointed with the service received and I was so turned off, I didn’t even order an entree.
I walked in randomly on Thursday evening and thought the restaurant was beautiful and the host was very pleasant. I requested the patio and she happily accommodated me.
I sat there for an extended period of time without being greeted and they had 2 gentlemen working the patio. When greeted he didn’t even introduce himself. He just said “can I start you with water, what type? Want something to drink with that?” There wasn’t any greeting or introduction in any shape or form. After order a bottle of still water, I sat there for 30mins without anything to drink because he brought the water out with my cocktail.
I didn’t have any utensils to eat my appetizer wedge salad with. Which I couldn’t eat anyway because the plate came out with an old salad crusted on rim of the plate(extremely disgusting) and the bacon on the wedge looked and tasted like it was rendered 3 days prior. I sent the salad back due to the dirty plate. A manager never did a table touch which was extremely disappointing.
Took my server an hour and a half to even offer bread service. He offered bread service and then never brought the bread. I had to refill my own water glass throughout my dining experience.
I ordered another appetizer waiting on my guest. When my guest arrived, which I let him know in advance I was waiting on and let him know when I saw her walking up. He proceeded to walk by us 4 times before even greeting. He never offered her water. When my guest finally asked if she would ever receive water, he said “oh, do you want some”. Without asking what type of water she would prefer, he bought her tap.
As first timers, I also expect a tour of the menu or the server to make suggestions of any kind, never happened. Excuse me, he did after we mentioned it to him.
I was so turned off by this time, by the lack of service being given I didn’t want anything else. I ordered a dessert. Sticky toffee pudding no nuts. At this point, my guest ordered her apps and my dessert didn’t arrive. Time goes by, he comes and says the dessert was made with nuts and it was being remade. I wasn’t very confident that was true, gave me the impression he forgot about my dessert. When the dessert arrived, it was freezing cold in the middle and yet had to send it back. Dessert came out again and it was cold inside again and I kept it and tried to enjoy it but it was so dense because it was COLD.
At the end of the experience, attempted to have a conversation with the server to inform him that this entire experience was beyond underwhelming and disappointing. Expecting a manager at some point due to the food at least. Never happened, he was so nonchalant about the situation and took the dessert off the bill.
I highly doubt I would give this another chance due to the bad taste it left.
On a positive note, the restaurant is beautiful, I loved the ambiance. The 2 bars is a nice touch and the outside gave more casual, the indoor/outdoor patio was a nice...
Read moreMy wife and i went to C&S a on a Friday night. The decor is fantastic. The entire layout is has quite an allure. Art Deco done modern and sexy. The restaurant seemed lively and staff very busy. Our server Alejandro was attentive and respectful. Glad to finally try the food after hearing about it for years. Cant wait to come back.
Full: We waited at the door maybe a minute or two, the host looked pensive and hot. Unnerved, we were taken to a booth directly beside the bar. Clean booth and our settings were in fact clean, nice! Our host, lol that poor baby, happened to break a water glass on the table, few large shards. no cause for concern, but it was not wiped nor were we asked if we were okay. Busy Bee that one.
Our server brought us complimentary bread and whipped butter. Probably better fresh, but the taste was there. I'd ask for fresh ones on a less busy moment in time there. We placed our orders, we had the Chowder, Shrimp Spring Rolls and Bone Marrow & Escargot appetizers. They were a step below hot, but not as to say lukewarm. the bread this time was stale for real. But the Bone marrow & Escargot were GREAT! The Shrimp Spring Roll was good. The chowder was phenomenal and pleased my high hopes. Marrow App: 9/10 Spring Rolls: 7.5/10 Chowder 10/10 My wife's Redfish dish was the star of the show, and i definitely should have gotten one for myself. The Red Snapper had a very elaborate chew, just balanced enough to let the Snapper shine each bite. Lovely. I wish there was more of the cajin beurre blanc on the plate because it works with the snapper so well. Thank you chef.
Redfish Dish: 9.5/10 Snapper Dish: 8/10
To Add (the bad) Please chill on the garnishes volume. as it felt like we had to pick through herb bushels to get to the bone marrow. Please destem the Rosemary and/or parsley. Im okay with expo's salt bae'ing my parsley flakes. Almost every instance of the green onion garnish could have been done with chives for sharper flavor and same visual contrast. My spoon brought by food runner or back server, while helpful and on par, the spoon was dirty. so i had to wait to eat my hot, now warm soup and stale bread. The truffle fries were cold on first visit and the second slightly hotter, not even hot. Even LESS truffle oil. Too faint. The hot sauce with the chowder was not it man, im sorry, both were was one of those sweet burns that works better with sticky wings or oysters maybe. Theres so many local hot sauces that can combo that much better. (not a deduction, just opinion)
AND. I still loved it, and thats saying something. Considering many Karens would 3 or 4 star this experience, and I am willing to give it another try because the potential is obviously right there, I maybe only got to experience a glimpse through the smudges. Thank you C&S,...
Read moreWould it be going too far to call C&S a hidden gem? The restaurant is in a supermarket-anchored complex that I frequented for nearly two years until I finally noticed it. When I finally got to dine in, I was blown away by what it looked like on the inside (compared to its unexceptional exterior). It's a vibe that I immediately pegged as 'old-school New York steakhouse', with dark wooden decor and intimate, white-linened table settings. My friend and I were surprised at how full the restaurant was on a random Tuesday night, so reservations are highly recommended before coming here.
The seafood is the star of the show here, with pains clearly taken to freshly source all raw ingredients. Yes, the prices will be higher here than the seafood at most restaurants, but there's an implicit statement of quality and care baked into them. Our table chose the calamari to start, which were phenomenal. They're crispy, well-seasoned, and so flavorful on their own, with a judiciously drizzled sauce that almost rendered the marinara unnecessary.
The 'Market Fish' portion of the menu lists the various ingredients available, with a choice of preparations - grilled/broiled/blackened, and with a choice of sauce - oil and caper, soy chili-garlic, and a lemony beurre blanc. My friend and I both went with the Ora King salmon from New Zealand and when we asked our server about it, he explained that the higher fat content would produce a far superior flavor than what we might find in other kinds.
And how was it? Stupendous. My palate isn't skilled enough to know whether it's the fish or the preparation, but it was tender, juicy in a way I've never know salmon to be, and so rich on its own that I nearly regretted getting the creamy mashed potatoes on the side. The market fish comes with a choice of two sides, and there's a deliciously robust list of sides. I loved the mashed potatoes (though it proved to be slightly overkill with the buerre blanc I chose for my salmon). The haricot verts were also fine, but I admit I was slightly surprised to find the stems hadn't been trimmed when everything else had been presented with such polish.
The wait staff are proper and professional here, taking diligent care to replace cutlery, plates, and remove crumbs between courses. Our server, Pablo, was just excellent - responsive to our questions about the menu, discreet and discerning with his check-ins (I noticed him giving our table some time when we seemed to be in deeper conversation), and unhurried in...
