I should have trusted the negative reviews on this one. Guy taking orders on the phone was friendly and the portion sizes and flavors for the lunch specials were fine, but that's where the positives end. We ordered 5 lunch specials for delivery and they came in one paper bag, which shouldn't have been an issue...except there was clearly sauce and oil all down one side of the bag. It was saturated. I'm honestly kind of shocked the delivery person managed to keep the bag in one piece between how soggy the bag was and how full they stuffed it. Each lunch special comes in a big white square styrofoam container, the kind with 3 sections, and all 5 boxes were crammed into this bag, along with one more of these boxes. Orders $35+ are supposed to get 10 Chinese doughnuts for free, and we had ordered enough to get them, so there were 6 of these not-real-sturdy styrofoam boxes just absolutely mashed in there. One of the lunches was just completely filled with sauce (why? I thought tai chen chicken wasn't supposed to be a soup) and that was the one that leaked. 3 of the 6 boxes were crushed and could not be squished back into their original shapes. Why couldn't the order have been split into 2 bags? No idea here, because when I called to let them know that "hey, we only got 9 doughnuts and also the bag was sopping wet," instead of the guy acknowledging that changes could be made going forward, I got told "this is just what happens when there's more than 2 in a bag". Like, bro what?? Are you picking a fight??? I was speechless, what do you even say back to this, "so you're saying I should only order 2 or not at all from y'all"???? Apparently they also don't count how many doughnuts are in the box when they're prepacked in the morning so "sometimes there's 10, sometimes there's 9 or 8, we don't check". Actual words from the guy manning the phone. I just, I dunno dude, I was not expecting to be indirectly and laughingly told it was my fault I didn't get 10 doughnuts or that it was my fault the bag was sopping. They don't seem to think any of this is a bad thing or within their control. Just go to panda express, quality is the same and at least you expect to be gaslit...
Read moreAs you can see by scrolling down, we have been ordering from here for a good long time and it USED to be the best Chinese around. That is no longer the case. It has been been getting gradually worse, but it has now gotten to the point where the food is no longer edible. We recently ordered lunch from them and every single entree was terrible. Not cooked correctly, no meat, and drenched in unappetizing and unpleasant sauce. The "fried" rice was not. It was white rice with MAYBE a tiny but of soy and a tablespoon of veggies. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend China Harbor.
Had to write a review after seeing some of these reviews and not understanding what the heck. We've been ordering from China Harbor for over 10 years and it's always amazing. The meat is fresh and not mystery meat, it's always hot, always fast, and the staff is always pleasant. This is the best Chinese restaurant in Virginia Beach, hands down.
I was just on here trying to see if anyone comments on the crab rangoons because we were looking to branch out some, but was appalled at all the negative comments. My husband loves the General Tso's, the pork fried rice is awesome, sweet and sour chicken is great, as is the Szechuan String beans with Chicken. The only thing I've ever got that I didn't like was the Bourbon chicken and that was when they first started offering it a few years ago. I was expecting something like at Lynnhaven Mall and that was not it. I don't know if they've changed since then, but I've ordered things at restaurants I loved that I didn't like before.
Either way, I wouldn't hesitate to send anyone here. The...
Read moreI used to love this place. I'll never order from them again. Today I ordered lunch. Half way through eating, I scooped up a spoon of rice, and deep in the rice was this long white hair. (Maybe really blonde but appeared white to me). I immediately stopped and called them. The girl who answered (pretty sure it's the same shorter lady who delivered it to me) argued with me that no one has white hair so it must be mine. I have dark brown hair. No one in my home even has blonde hair, let alone white. I explained this. She offered to bring me a new meal, but to be honest, I lost my appetite at the long hair in my food and had no desire for a replacement. She stated they don't do refunds, but she could bring me more food. I'm sorry, but when I find hair in my food, I dont want more of your food. I understand mistakes happen. I would have been completely happy with a refund or even a replacement for next time, I would have been back. But how she handled it on the phone arguing and being rude, I will not be back. (Sidenote incase the restaurant reads this: you don't have to have a worker with white/blonde hair for it to end up in the food. It could have come from a delivery, from a customer and picked up on your clothing, etc.- when a long time customer assures you this hair was deep in the rice, don't argue with them that it couldn't have possibly come from the restaurant when it's...
