Horrible experience. I was dressed down but patrons were dressed way worse. I had a shirt on an lulu lemon shorts. My air maxes were brand new. Everything was fine when I first went in. I had 4 beers and was not drunk and was very polite. The 4 beers where from another establishment. I asked them if they had apply pay and they did not. I live upstairs in the building. Great building if you want a great rental spot to escape the northern winters or just to move. Great job to the mayor and police who cleaned it up. The Blind Monk has horrible service it’s for people who know each other. They are rude to everyone. Last week they were rude to my father wouldn’t let him in. Made a comment about his golf shirt and slammed and locked the door in his face. They act like a private place but don’t tell you as they are overpriced. I hate complaining but the assault put it over the edge as I made my way out a female employee assaulted me. At that point I used no foul language and just told them they were rude. After she pushed me I turned around and asked her why she assaulted me. She denied it and claimed having someone’s arm Is not assault . Outside in the side walk the pushing then was definitely assault. She had a man with her would not even make eye contact with me. Then I leave walk around the building I have a cop stop me an ask me what I’m doing.l told him I am in front of my buildings smoking a Newport. He asked me what happened and told me to go back Tommorow to apologize. Not going to happen. It all started when I left to grab cash. The lady sitting two people away got mad I was talking to this nice guy. What a shame. Rude staff it’s like mom and pop shop. I could see it in a movie where it’s a cover for dirty cops and the mafia. I’m upset I heard the wine is great. The staff rude the police in the pocket. I’m straight edge, college educated and work in social work. I am a professional. These people are far from it. I hope to remember to proof read this, I got wine somewhere else thanks to a friend. Sorry for any grammatical mistakes. I know someone will find something and say I am an idiot because I am correct. If you are in your 60s an older and have a 10000 watch they might...
Read moreI was really excited about trying this place out, which may be why I was a bit let down. It's conveniently within walking distance of the brightline station, so I think it will do just fine.
On this Saturday morning we scored outside seating which was quite nice, as it's shaded, the surrounding architecture, and feel is quite nice.
What I didn't like was that they had a "trunk show" kind of thing happening, which come to find is a different thing every weekend/day. So on this occasion it was a fashion designer or boutique owner, set up a few racks on either side of the store outside. Quite honestly, that didn't bother me at all, what did bother me was being interrupted by someone from the "show" to hand me a message pamphlet about them with some discount or another. Seriously, I saw you when I got there. If I wanted to buy clothes, I wouldn't be at a restaurant. So this was a BIG TURNOFF!!
The food was good. I had a Cuban sandwich that was really good. The bread was scrumptious and it packed a bit of heat. For my son I got the buttermilk biscuits with honey and the presentation justified the cost for f $7.00 for 2 biscuits with honey. My husband had the shakshouka. He didn't feel like it was "authentic" but then again neither was the Cuban sandwich.
You can't go to taco bell and expect authentic Mexican food. Not that this is Taco Bell by any means, but you know what I mean.
Anyway, they also had a deejay spinning some tunes on Saturday morning, which quite honestly I don't know you need early when you're hungover. However, I'm sure others like it, so don't mind me.
A couple of weird things about this place. There's only 1 bathroom. So, if the coffee is flowing right through you, you might end up waiting outside the door for god knows how long.
The other weird thing is, it seems like the bar tender also takes care of the outside (or at least was the Saturday we went) so service was really slow to almost nonexistent. No fault of hers, it's impossible to go outside and deal with 5 or 6 tables and a full bar. So, maybe management needs to help the sister out.
Parking can be a bit taxing. Good luck finding something if you didn't just get...
Read moreI am a Downtown West Palm resident who frequents local restaurants regularly. The original Blind Monk on Evernia St. was fantastic. Great wines, ambiance & warm, excellent service. They recently relocated to the Aka hotel nearby. I went there for the 1st time on Saturday evening with 2 friends. We wanted to have some wine and listen to live music. I googled live music in my neighborhood and they came up showing live Jazz 6-9pm. I called to confirm that it was still going on, no answer. We decided to go anyway. We sat at the bar and had to flag down the server, busy speaking to the other bartender, behind the bar. I wanted a rose’ wine but they had none from Provence, France. The primary and always available region for rose’ available in every restaurant or local bar everywhere. I am a wine aficionado, but when I moved on to my second preference of red, was unfamiliar with their selection. I kindly asked the server if I may please have a small taste of one that seemed to be somewhat familiar… she snapped back at me … no tastes allowed…… I mean really at $20.00 a glass and up… I have never heard of such a thing and neither had my friends or the person next to me, who had just checked in to the hotel. There was no jazz either. I casually spoke to the manager, she couldn’t care less. Said they had nothing to do with the hotel, just renting space from them. What kind of attitude is that? Of course we are leaving after we finish our one drink and bill time comes. Server’s artitude suddenly gets really sweet…with the bill on an Ipad and says oh I will help you with the processing… ready … options for tip in huge boxes 18% 22% 25% …. Little tiny tiny box, dimly lit place and I pad… other… My friends and I, other patrons who were unhappy, will never go back. We are not accustomed to being being treated this way....
