My husband and I came for brunch. He got the monte cristo special and I got the Tanya’s Benny with a side of hashbrowns. We also got a side of monkey bread (before learning they were supposed to be complimentary - our server didnt tell us but we saw online it was supposed to come with our meal) and I got some coffee.
My first cup of coffee was very bland, and seemed like it had been double brewed. We waited 40 minutes for our meal. In the meantime, our server brought us our check - before any food item came to our table. The server came to refill my coffee, and while this one actually tasted like coffee, it was room temperature. So, after 20 more minutes of sitting with our check waiting for our $45 order, it came out. For each of our meals being $15, I was disappointed in my serving of hashbrowns with my Benedict compared to his heaping helping of fries. I was still hopeful until I cut open my poached eggs… which were a jelly like consistency instead of runny. I was so disappointed! After waiting so long for my food I wasn’t going to ask to get it remade. The kitchen was pretty loudly communicating with each other and seemed to be swamped, so I didn’t want to add more in case it would have taken another 30 minutes for my correct eggs.
My husband enjoyed the monte cristo sandwich but his fries were soggy, over-peppered, and tasted of old oil. The best part of my meal was the 2 pieces of bacon. After we finished our meal, we realized we had never received our monkey bread. When our server came back around we asked for it in a to go container because we were having trouble talking to eachother over the kitchen noise.
Our server was nice enough to give us a second portion of monkey bread for free since we waited for so long, but both of our portions are stale and chewy, as if they hadn’t been covered under the heater. All around a very disappointing meal for the $50 price. A Wichita staple that I was excited to try that did not meet the expectation behind the hype. Maneuvering downtown, battling their awfully designed parking lot, and finally being ready to enjoy a meal - I was...
Read moreWe are so glad we tried this place for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Since we aren’t from Wichita, we wanted to try a local place! We arrived around 8:30am or so and timing was good – no wait for a party of two and still plenty of tables left. If you arrive after 9:00am it will be a different story! This place seems quite popular for locals and tourists alike. It’s surprisingly clean and cheery for a diner. The waitress was patient with our questions and helped with recommendations. We thought so many things sounded great, but ended up selecting the triple D to get a taste for 3 items, and also added on the biscuit and gravy. We first started with monkey bread and that was a yummy but sugary treat while we waited for our mains. They were delivered quickly and the Triple D consisted of: cornbeef hash, eggs benedict, banana bread French toast. As I mentioned we also added a biscuit w/ gravy. Cornbeef hash – not normally something I would pick. It was good, but way too seasoned for me. Eggs benedict – great, the hollandaise was good and the poached medium egg just right. Banana bread French toast – Wow, that was something special. Definitely worth at least a half order to try for any newcomers! Biscuit and gravy – probably the best I’ve had. I don’t order this often due to sausage and I not getting along all the time, but this was just right. Not too peppery and the sausage-gravy ratio was spot on. I liked that the sausage was cut up fine. And I could tell the biscuit was special and if I wasn’t so full would have wanted to order one to enjoy plain with butter and a little jelly – maybe next time! Put this one on your list if you are...

Laura wasn't there today, and the food wasn't nearly as good (horribly salty, and not worth the price 😒 Took.my mom to luch, she said she doubts she will come back) I made myself get something new, instead of one of my usual choices, so I got one of the specials. The open faced prime rib sandwich ($18.99 we found out the price on the bill) w/mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes and green beans. First and foremost the mushroom gravy was SOOO salty I almost couldn't eat it..it tasted like a gravy packet mix that I occasionally use at home. Second, too much bread and not enough meat. Third not enough mashed potatoes and I ended up with several green bean stems. The best part of the meal was the green beans. My mom wanted a hamburger but was told they were out of buns (10:30 am) so she asked if she could get the hamburger made up like my prime rib sandwich special. She said yes, when should a hamburger patty cost as much as the prime rib? I mean seriously. She too complained about a the price and how much salt was in it, we both blew up like a balloon later that afternoon from all the salt. I personally also ordered a cup of the green chicken chili to take home for later. When I got home later that evening I had it for dinner and I will say that was extremely good. Should have gotten that for lunch. Definitely disappointed in this particular experience. And as a regular, this just didn't meet the bar that I have set.
Always the best food and service at DooDah Diner! Love getting to visit with Laura and getting a great meal. Don't forget the...
