Not your regular American-Mexican restaurant. Good food, though.
We had the steak burrito and goat tacos. The burrito was massive. It was mostly stuffed with rice, but still it was pretty good. The goat tacos were great. Very simple, but very good - goat bbq on flour tortillas with lime and garnished with radish slices. I got beans and rice on the side. The beans didn't taste like they were fried with a lot of grease, so while they mIght not have been as rich in flavor as other refried beans, they were pretty good and didn't really weigh me down.
Before the meal, we were served some tortillas. Just a tiny bowl, which was kind of nice because usually after eating two baskets of tortillas I am too full to finish dinner. The salsa that came with the tortillas was very thin, almost like hot sauce rather than salsa. There were no chunks of tomato or onion. It was thin and runny.
This place definitely had more of an authentic Mexican feel then most other Mexican restaurants. The atmosphere was pretty cool. Small and cozy, not too flashy. It was really quiet. Some music might have been nice, but the silence didn't necessarily take away from the experience.
It was the off-season in Wildwood so there wasn't a whole lot to choose from. With more to choose from I'm not so sure we would've gone to this place, but I'm glad we got to try it. Overall it was pretty good, and the prices were...
Read moreFeel like I ate at a different restaurant than most of the reviewers here. Grew up in Mexican-American neighborhood, traveled extensively in Mexico, lived on border - I know authentic Mexican food and was very hopeful on reading the reviews. Was sorely disappointed- The Mole Oaxaqueño was clearly dumped straight out of a jar or can without any attempt to disguise the shortcut - It was bitter and flavorless and the chicken was not freshly made. The seafood dish Vuelve la Vida was ketchup over indistinguishable minced seafood and imitation crab - inedible. The salsa was was flavorless, chips stale and the service was terrible- young girl on her phone who has clearly no training in table service who couldn't be bothered to check on us or bring our check. Maybe a bad night but wow... I don't often write neg reviews but this was worst Mexican meal of my life. They need a reality check and here it is. "Despertar y poner en algún esfuerzo o simplemente dejar de vender...
Read moreGot the chicken enfrijoladas. Pretty much enough for 2 people in one serving. It was delicious! This is more true mexican than tex mex like the chains. Made to order so if you go in for take out, you'll want to call ahead. The bean sauce was nice and creamy, the chicken was basically flattened breast meat i had to cut up myself - nbd to me. The avocado was clearly fresh cut and plentiful. I asked for hot sauce and got some house salsa verde which had just enough heat and flavor. Overall the meal was great but enough food that i didn't finish in one go. If you want good homemade true Mexican, check this place out. If you want mexican that isn't as messy as it is delicious,...
