Read moreThis was hands down the worst restaurant experience we've had in Vietnam. We've been here for over ten days, traveling through Con Dao, Ho Chi Minh, and Da Lat, eating in all kinds of places, from street food to proper restaurants, and nothing even comes close to how bad this was.
We ordered morning glory which was way overpriced compared to literally every other place we've been to. And honestly, it was the only thing that was even halfway decent. Everything else was a disaster.
The traditional curry was just disgusting. I don’t even know how to describe it. It had some weird sweet salad thrown into it, the sauce tasted off, like it was starting to spoil, and the chicken was an absolute horror. The pieces looked like something you'd throw away, not serve to people. I wouldn’t even give that to a dog.
Then we ordered seafood fried rice, which said it came with shrimp. There wasn’t a single shrimp in the whole thing. Nothing. We were so shocked because just a few days earlier on Con Dao we ate a full kilo of fresh shrimp for 400k VND, and here, not even one? When we told the waiter, he didn’t bring a replacement dish or apologize properly, he just came back with this random bowl full of what looked like old, mushy shrimp tails. It was honestly gross. They looked like they’d been reheated ten times and smashed into a bowl. Completely unappetizing and totally unacceptable.
And here’s the thing that really pissed us off, after this terrible experience, the waiter asked us to leave a review. That’s probably why they even have good reviews at all. They ask people to post right away, before they even taste half the food. Don’t trust the reviews. It’s all fake hype. This place is a tourist trap, plain and simple.
We’ve had amazing food all across Vietnam and loved so many meals. This place was in a league of its own in the worst possible way. Expensive, bad food, weird atmosphere, and absolutely nothing authentic about it....
Read moreA Mind-Blowing Culinary Experience at Tungs Kitchen! My family and I just had the most incredible meal at Tungs Kitchen in Hanoi, and I couldn't wait to share our experience. This restaurant is an absolute must-visit for anyone looking for authentic, mind-blowing Vietnamese food and fantastic service. Every single dish we ordered was a masterpiece, but a few stood out. The fried shrimp rice was, without a doubt, the best we've had on our entire trip. We've tried this dish at many places around the city, but this one was on a different level—perfectly seasoned and incredibly flavorful. The chicken fried rice was equally impressive, as was the spring roll with chicken. The papaya salad without meat was fresh, vibrant, and bursting with incredible flavors. It was exactly what we were hoping for and truly a highlight. However, the absolute star of the show for me was the braised chicken with pineapple. The chicken was unbelievably tender, and the sweet and tangy notes of the pineapple created a unique and unforgettable flavor profile. It was probably the best dish I've had in a very long time. Beyond the food, the service was impeccable. The team, especially Tommy and Ali, were the best—super helpful and attentive throughout our meal. We were traveling with our infant, and they immediately provided a baby chair and were so kind and accommodating, which made our experience that much more relaxing and enjoyable. Tungs Kitchen is a gem in Hanoi. The food is spectacular, the flavors are authentic and well-balanced, and the hospitality is top-notch. If you're looking for a meal that will truly "take it away," you have to eat here. We will...
