The Bizarre Welcome It’s 7:15 PM in Hoi An, Vietnam. The main gate looks wide open, inviting me in for some Indian flavors. I step inside, excited. But the reception manager says, “We’re closed.” I point to the sign. He asks, “How many people?” I say, “Three.” Suddenly, he nods: “Okay, we’re open.” What? A restaurant that’s open… but only for groups of three? It’s like a weird game. Strike one. Ordering and the Dark Vibes We order butter chicken, dal, buttery chapatis, and drinks. The place is super dark—like a cave. You can barely see. The curries come in black bowls. Everything blends into shadows. Is that chicken or just sauce? If it’s on purpose, it’s a bad idea. Who wants to eat blind? The spices hit hard—fiery red heat. I ask for tap water. Nope. “Bottled only, and it costs extra.” An Indian restaurant charging for water? We eat dry-mouthed, too stubborn to pay. Ouch. Drinks and the Rest Drinks? Tiny portions, huge prices. Feels cheap, not cheerful. The owner seems focused on saving money—dim lights, small pours. But good food and fun vibes? Missing. Washrooms? Tiny and dirty. No thanks. My Verdict Skip Safron India. Life’s too short for this hassle. Not recommended. Quick Tip for the Safron India Owner in Hoi An Light it up! Use bright bowls and warm lamps to show off your curries. Add free filtered tap water—it’s a simple win that keeps spicy fans happy and coming back. Your food could shine—let it!. Pictures are...
Read moreWe recently visited Saffron Flavours of India in Hoi An City, and it was truly an unforgettable dining experience! Our group of 10, all vegetarians, ordered a wide variety of dishes from the extensive vegetarian menu, and each dish was simply outstanding. From the Paneer Butter Masala to the Dal Makhani, every bite was bursting with authentic Indian flavors, and the presentation was beautiful.
What truly stood out was the impeccable service. Two of our group members have specific food allergies, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure that their meals were prepared safely and according to their dietary needs. This level of care and attention made us feel valued and reassured.
To top off the evening, we had the Gajjar Halwa for dessert, which was the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal. The rich, warm flavors left us craving more!
If you’re looking for a delicious and authentic Indian vegetarian meal in Vietnam, this is the place to go! The ambiance, food, and service were all top-notch, and we can’t wait...
Read moreWe came here New Years Eve. Whilst the food was tasty, unfortunately the three out of four of us that ate the fish curry got food poisoning. The servings are quite small however in hindsight I was thankful as I only had a tiny piece of fish in the curry which was enough to cause me frequent visits to the toilet throughout the night. My children however were less fortunate as they had more fish than me and vomited constantly throughout the night. Whilst sitting in the restaurant after ordering but before receiving our meal we noted that the wall adjacent to our table was covered in mould. (Guys - take my advice and clean it, then paint it with a fresh coat of paint containing mould inhibitor). Hopefully this is a “one off” for the restaurant, but I would encourage them to please be more careful with...
