This one’s tough. We went in the morning a few days ago and had an excellent experience. We tried the veg samosas, aloo paratha, and chai. The waiter was nice, asked if we wanted our food spicy, which I thought was odd as these are dishes you wouldn’t consider spicy, but we said “sure”. Why not? The bread and samosas weren’t spicy, but they were delicious (as was the tea). The samosa filling has toasted cumin seed, which I really liked. The green sauce served with the food was excellent, (the waiter actually brought us more), but the red sauce was basically ketchup (not good). Regardless, the experience was so good, we decided to go back two days later.
They open at 10:30AM and we got there at 10:38. There was a lady still mopping the floor. We ordered the same items, the waiter went back and the cook looked concerned. I think he said they only had chai ready, so the waiter tells us they just opened and needed time to prepare. I asked how long and he said, “20 minutes.” We said ok and waited. After about 15 minutes, the lady comes out of the kitchen and leaves a cup of chai as an offering on their altar. I think, well maybe it’s coffee? A few minutes later, the chef comes out with two cups of chai that he and the waiter are drinking behind the desk. Now it’s 35 minutes and we still have no food, no tea, nothing. So I get up and tell the waiter, it’s been 30 minutes. He goes into the kitchen and the chef says we can give them chai, and the waiter closes the kitchen door, we waited a few minutes and walk out.
These two experiences are like night and day. If the food would take time, they could have at least brought the tea while we waited, instead of giving it to the god and sitting there drinking it themselves. Totally unacceptable and...
