Had a great 3 night stay here recently. I arrived way before the check in time early in the morning, room wasnt ready but obviously fair enough. The lady in charge offered me a free breakfast (which was delicious) and a bottle of water, i stashed my bag and went for a wander and came back about 11am, still hours before check in time, however she cheerily told me the room was now ready. Thanks!
This hostel, although not the flashiest or with the most facilities, was a place i will remember for a very long time. Its location was perfect in Saigon.100's of bars, restaurants and shops within a 5 minute walk radius- everything you could possibly need.
The layout of the hostel was brilliant for meeting others. A fairly small but communal space, with always open front area on a busy street where the temporary resident backpackers would meet, drink and be merry. Within 24 hours i had met a range of friendly and party loving folks, by the end of the 3 days we were hugging each other as we left. i think on the last night we didnt even bother going out, just sat and chewed the fat until the early hours.
Free beers every night was a touch, and not just a cheap can either, a 500ml ice cold bottle of Bia Saigon was my choice. Also very cheap anyway, 40K. Thats about £1.30.
The staff were lovely and knew me by name by the time i left.
Cleanliness was not an issue either, the cleaning staff worked hard to make sure everyone was comfortable.
After here i travelled across Vietnam and stayed in hostels with swimming pools, gyms and all manner of fancy facilities, but nothing beat my stay at Saigon Chill, just for the banter and friendship alone made in the wonderful little hostel just off the mental bar/pub/whatever its...
Read moreFantastic hostel! Very social and wonderful staff, especially Nam in the evenings is an absolute gem. Although they don't organize any social events per se, you get 2 free beers each day after 7pm and a lot of people congregate in the bar area to enjoy those, which makes it easy to socialize. The location is also fantastic, right in District 1, around the corner from Bui Vien walking street which is packed with bars and clubs to explore with newly made hostel friends. Such a wide variety of places available nearby for food, coffee and everything else that I doubt you'd run out of options. The hostel is also within walking distance or a short grab ride away from a lot of the major tourist attractions in HCMC.
I stayed in the private room which was a decent size with a full size closet, desk and chair and a night stand. Had a TV as well but I did not really spend much time in the room. Good sized bathroom with great water pressure in the shower that I loved. The only downside was it had only one small window which basically faced the wall of another building so there was zero natural light.
A really tasty breakfast was included everyday which was available from 7am until 11:30am which I thought was an incredibly generous time frame. Almost 7-8 options to choose from and included coffee and fruits.
They also arrange for tours to the Cu Chi tunnels and Mekong Delta, which are outsourced to other companies but just makes signing up easier.
Overall I really loved my stay at the Saigon Chill Hostel, central location, easy to make friends and really great staff. Can't ask...
Read moreElevator is a huge plus. The building is a typically narrow structure (eight floors) but it has an elevator. Room air conditioners worked great. I stayed in a four bed dorm with a window over the street. Dormitory beds are comfortable and private with curtains. Bed linens are new and good quality. In the bed cubicle has a small lockbox and a clothes hanging space. A locker for larger items is also in the room. The bathroom is "wet room" style, shower toilet sink in same small room. It's good to have your personal plastic slippers. The staff was kind and helpful. Free breakfast is generous and plated, not buffet, with several menu choices. Coupon for two free beers each evening is available at front desk. Common space open to street and conducive to making friends. Occasionally people come off the street to sell sunglasses, offer services, or beg. It’s not really bothersome. I used the shoe cleaning service. And sewing repair. I stayed here several days in January 2024. I will be happy...
