Went there during leisure time on a school trip in 2018 (I was 18). It was a fantastic, albeit short, experience. I did not have much time to view the exhibits, but there was generally a great atmosphere, all dark and spooky and stuff. It managed to achieve a pretty impressive sense of immersion by styling itself after medieval dungeons, with stone and wooden walls, prison cells, yellowish dim lights from candles and red from fires, as well as constant screaming. Unfortunately, the scream was unrealistic and so repetitive it ended up just being annoying and ruining the immersion instead of enhancing it. Most instruments were behind displays with written descriptions and explanations of how they worked, but many were visually depicted in framed drawings. And finally, a few got to show the deed in action with realistic human models. Said models were well made and surprisingly not really gory, even the ones that were dismembered. While I am glad that the exhibits were not reduced to some b horror gorefest, I still think that they were a bit too clean for a torture museum. The instruments themselves were incredibly fascinating, and it was truly wonderful I finally got to see them up close. There's also a nice little souvenir shop, where I bought a large ceramic skull mug :) Would definitely visit again given the chance, I definitely...
Read moreMuseum of Torture in Prague, and it was... intense. It's a small museum, so don’t expect to spend hours there, but what it lacks in size, it totally makes up for in creep factor. The place is filled with all sorts of torture instruments from back in the day, and let me tell you, some of them are seriously gnarly. They have everything from the Iron Maiden to racks and thumb screws—stuff that really makes you cringe when you think about how they were actually used.
The museum does a good job of explaining each piece, so you get a bit of history along with the horror. It’s fascinating but also pretty dark, you know? Definitely not for the faint of heart. The whole vibe is eerie, especially since it’s tucked away in this old building that adds to the spooky atmosphere.
It’s a quick visit—30 min max—but totally worth it if you're into history with a darker twist. Plus, it’s not super crowded, so you can take your time reading everything without feeling rushed. I would say its not a must visit...
Read moreThis could have been so much better. Start is great, first few rooms are great, good light, morbid torture devices and really cool descriptions. But it is like they just lost interest along the way, first descriptions are gone one by one, in last few rooms there are no any descriptions at all, just mannequins in cages. And the worst thing is lighting. You can find some descriptions by accident in the dark corner there is no light so you cant read it without flash from mobile phone. Just like with descriptions the longer you walk the darker it gets. You can see there are lights on the wall but they just dont work. Its like no one did any maintenance there in few months and bulbs are fried. Last mannequin is just in dark black hole without any light. Again you need flash from mobile phone to even see it. Wouldnt be surprised if many people didnt even see half of the exhibits in the end. Because few people that were in front of us just walked by them without stopping and checking dark...
