My mother decided to book this zipline tour for myself, my boyfriend, my sister (who has autism disorder), and my sisters friend. My sister loves to zipline and has done it many times with no issues, however this tour was “active participation”. When I was helping my mother book our reservation, we were aware that it would be active but all it initially read was the ability to climb stairs and to stand from a sitting position which is all something my sister is capable of. The website did not explicitly say the extent of mental capability one would need unless much further investigation. We booked the reservation the day before the tour and nothing indicated there would be an issue with my sister until we had to sign the waivers, which was made available only after it was booked and of course no refunds were available. At that point we had no choice but to try and allow my sister the chance to join in but she was unable to participate so her friend and her had to leave the tour. I understand why she was not allowed to participate, but the no refund policy is outrageous and a tourist scam to get money. Not to mention, the tour was alright definitely not as insanely pretty as the brochure showed (we went in August). I would not recommend this tour it was ridiculously overpriced for the tourists and the no refund policy is extremely inconsiderate especially since you have to dig around the website to get the full-depth description of the “active participation” unless AFTER booking the reservation where then no refund is available. Definitely not worth the money and my least favorite part of the trip. The tour only lasted one hour. ONE HOUR! There were very few stopping points and I was unpleasantly surprised with how quickly it ended. The tour guide made a comment about how she was a college student and asked my boyfriend and I to convince the other older couple that was with us to tip them since the woman was wearing expensive earrings and was on the Princess Cruise Line so "she must have money". I am a college student too, so I get needing money, but the only workers there were very young college students that acted entitled the entire time. This tour was ridiculously overpriced and I wish I had not wasted over $700(!!!) on this rip off. Cannot express how disappointing this experience was but if I can at least let someone know of the reality of this overpriced tourist trap,...
Read moreI never wanted to do a zipline tour in my life. It seems like the kind of thing that happens when you’re in a tourist town and boredom starts to creep in. That’s what happened with us. We straggled in to the tour office downtown. Not the most energetic attendant ever, but ended up getting two tickets. Kinda spendy, I thought, but it’s Alaska. Everything was very on time, easy and the guide team was friendly, funny, engaging. In short the guides were excellent. The zipping itself was a mellow rush of adrenaline. Felt safe all of the time. Heights would cause me nausea occasionally, but you should expect that. Nothing very scenic since it was raining, so we couldn’t see Denali or much besides trees. I wasn’t a big fan of the canned picture taking opportunities. It just felt like “tourist stuff”, which this place totally is, so it’s more my fault in even being there. All in all, my daughter and I had a good time, relieved some boredom. We didn’t walk away with wanting more ziplines in our lives. But it was a nice bonding experience. Anyway. Do it if you’ve got nothing else to do in Talkeetna. You’ll enjoy it and it’s a well...
Read moreI did not take a tour. The other reviews say that the guides do a great job and I believe them.
This review has nothing to do with the quality of the tour, the equipment, or (for the most part) DZT. It is only concerned with the waiver you need to sign before you take the tour.
I edited this review and have upgraded it from 1 to 3 stars after talking to DZT about it. They seem like good people.
You should read the waiver carefully. It waives all responsibility from DZT including if the guides make a mistake that causes you harm, or if DZT is negligent. It is your responsibility to spot failing or poorly maintained equipment. It is your responsibility if the guide makes a mistake.
In DZT's response, they pointed out (accurately) that I did not talk to them before posting this review. That is a fair criticism, so I contacted them. They said that they inspect their equipment, including the lines, after every tour. It sounds like they run a safe operation, and all the other reviews say the guides do a great job.
We still did not feel comfortable signing the waiver and chose not to...
