The "Hey, Captain" enterprise is not sure what it wants to be. We think it wants to be all things to all people, and that just doesn't work. It purports to be a canal tour of famous Copenhagen Landmarks, but it also attempts to be a party boat as well as an experiment in social dynamics. Unfortunately, it falls short on all three goals.
The staff with whom we came into contact were all very pleasant and very welcoming. Our "captain" was especially energetic and enthusiastic. However, we had, among our group of 11, a couple who were locals, and they seemed to think that they had to play "one up-manship" with the Captain by pointing out landmarks first or by out-referencing the captain with their own take about the excursion.
Due to the competition engendered by the local couple, they stole the captains "thunder," and in doing so, those of us who were first time participants received very little information from the source who should have provided it. We actually felt bad for the captain and were disappointed in what was essentially a boat ride on water. We expected more relative to information about Copenhagen.
At the conclusion of the cruise, a UK lad who had told us that he was a recruiter/trainer for the company asked us how it went. We told him that the captain was put in an awkward position by the local couple who dominated the discourse. His response was, "That's what we want." Sorry, UK lad, that is not what we wanted.
The awarded stars are for the effort of the captain and for the pleasant young lady who was the receptionist. However, the tour did not warrant five stars due to its lack of corporate mission for its customers and its inability to provide some basic information about...
Read moreIf you prefer a smaller more intimate tour that provides a personal experience you will not forget than I would definitely recommend Hey Captain. They have small boats that accommodate up to 12 people I believe (I believe you can rent the whole boat as well) which is a perfect size for an interactive tour which is what they provide. The entire staff that greeted us at the dock were fantastic and everyone said good morning or began a conversation with you. I think there were a total of 7 people on our tour and very comfortable. They provided blankets as it was a bit chilly and a top should it rain. They also offered beverages such as wine, beer, and soda which was great! Our captain was Sebastian (aka SeaBass) who was GREAT. Very informative with many many facts, history and information on the structures, buildings, boats and ships, etc. He was very interactive with all of our group and remembered all our names and origins. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the time on the canals. We also took a large boat canal tour the next day and while it was nice and informative, it was a recording of the information and not nearly as informative. For an excellent tour we would recommend...
Read moreRelaxed and Memorable | A Perfect Way to See Copenhagen I had the most amazing time on the 3-hour “Captain’s Favorite” tour with Hey Captain. Our captain Rasmus was absolutely fantastic, knowledgeable, relaxed, and genuinely engaging, and we also had the pleasure of meeting Sam, a Captain-in-training who brought great energy and enthusiasm to the trip. What I appreciated most was the atmosphere. The boat was small, comfortable, and quiet, not overcrowded or rushed. We explored everything from the historic canals to the modern urban waterfront, all at the perfect pace, with fun stories, and local insights. One of my favorite moments was seeing Bjørn Nørgaard’s The Genetically Modified Little Mermaid near Dahlerups Pakhus. I hadn’t heard of it before, and it was such a unique and unexpected piece, definitely one of those “wow” moments you remember. Hey Captain isn’t just a boat tour, it’s a thoughtful, human experience designed to connect people in a world that often forgets how much we need that. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Copenhagen, it’s an...
