Picture the scene, we are served a rather well cooked plate of meatballs after waiting over an hour for our main meal. We politely requested the platter be sent back and replaced with something resembling less like charcoal (am I really on Santas naughty list this year?). To our amazement, our waiter theatrically picks up the charcoal from our plate and starts to eat it. Apparently it’s the best lump of charcoal he’s ever eaten. In this establishment the customer is never right. He then takes our plate and presents it under the noses of our fellow diners and asks if they too think the dish is worthy of eating. You had to be there to believe it. This really did happen. Satire is well and truly dead at the Nyhavnskroen.
Scrooge also spent most of the evening rolling his eyes at our now restless children. After my boy took a napkin from a nearby empty table, he snapped “there’s people eating there in 5 minutes go and sit down”. How about using a bit of charm and charisma, make the children laugh, give them another napkin to mess with. Instead he chose to curse and heckle from the sidelines. Being mean and rude to children on Christmas Day? Urgh, the worst kind of human being.
Other low lights include trying to explain to our waitress that our son has an egg allergy. After two separate trips to the kitchen to clarify if our starter contained egg she was still non the wiser. At least, that’s what her facial expression told me. Bread and butter only for the boy it is then!
Minor plus points include the smoked salmon, and pickled herring. Both delicious. Also, Bah Humbug took it within himself to help carry the pram down the steep steps from the restaurant. He does have kindness within his soul somewhere…just not to children!

Dishes do contain a lot of salt but maybe it's part of Danish culture and cuisine. Other than that, the dish with salmon was delicious, would suggest it to everyone.
The crispy pork - national Danish dish - while delicious was really crispy, to the point of others on the same table will be able to hear the sound of your teeth chewing it. I assume the crispy feeling originates from the side of the pork that is plainly fried fats. It's a matter of preference I'd say, not the best but memorable and noteworthy.
It's located by one of the most popular tourist attractions in Copenhagen, so I wouldn't say it's expensive. There is a wooden menu stand by the door in the entrance towards the upper floor so you can always check the prices and see if it fits...
Read moreVery bad experience in this restaurant. We had a reservation but no waiter coming to us to give us a table. The waiter we went to weren't willing to listen to us and seem not to know what we were talking about. Finally a waitress knew and just showed us with hand where we should go. The table and the chairs were in a small corner and shaking due to the pavers (uncomfortable). Just gave us food menu but not even the drink choices. Seemed to be bothered every time she talked to us. Didnt ask for the baking of the meat.
And finally went to us for the bill, what a surprise to pay 320DKK (43€) SIMPLY for a steak with fries and a coke LOL! That's the price of a good restaurant with flawless service. And it just ended the same way, as the waitress then left us didn't even say goodbye after we paid. I wouldn't recommend it, still wondering how it has such...
