Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain — Attraction in Paris

The building is nice, and the current exhibition "The Great Animal Orchestra" is fantastic, in my opinion. However, the management is terrible. I paid to see an exhibition I was very interested in, only to find it treated as a playground for children. Kids were running around screaming in an exhibition designed to sit in silence and appreciate sounds of nature. Granted I made the mistake of coming on a Saturday, so I asked management if I could instead come back on a weekday at no extra charge. They firmly said no, and expressed no concern for the children. They should make an effort to at least have signs indicating silence is preferred, and ask parents to make an effort in silencing their children. It truly was painful, seeing such a beautiful piece of art ruined this way, and as a customer, I found it ridiculous they would not meet me in the middle and understand my dissatisfaction. This tiny little space is the worst gallery in Paris. There is a high chance your city apartment or suburban home are larger than this crowded gallery. Whoever curated this must be from Bushwick or some soul-crushing suburb of London.

I truly feel bad for the architect, Jean Nouvel, who must have been tricked into designing this space. The bathrooms are located in a narrow dimly lit smelly basement corridor straight out of a 1980’s public school.

There are large glass doors within the gallery that open onto the back garden, but they are for emergency use only, thus requiring everyone to leave through the front entrance and walk around the entire building on a narrow muddy path.

Overall, this was a complete waste of time and a rip-off considering how tiny the space is and how unfortunately how bad the art is. It’s embarrassing to consider how this was conceived by Cartier, and the disappointment was clearly expressed on the faces of almost everyone who was there. Reconsider...

👍 I recommend this place, which is very creative and original. The exhibitions are usually pretty great and show different perspectives and expressions of contemporary art. The entrance fee is good, but even better if you pay the annual subscription (it's kind of the same price as two tickets). You can also enjoy the garden, which is a peaceful oasis in the city.
