The good: Absolutely wild in the best way. Don Quijote is a multi-level discount wonderland packed with everything – souvenirs, beauty products, snacks, electronics, quirky gifts… you name it, they’ve crammed it in. The Shinjuku Tonanguchi store is no exception. It’s well-located, open late, and the tax-free process was super smooth for tourists. Great spot to stock up on gifts or things you didn’t know you needed.
The standout: The sheer scale and variety – it’s a chaotic but thrilling treasure hunt. You’ll absolutely lose hours here.
Room for improvement: Labels can be a mystery – highly recommend taking Google Lens or a translator app to help decipher what you’re buying (especially in the beauty/skincare section).
Would I return? In a heartbeat. In fact, we visited more than one Don Quijote around Tokyo!
The verdict: 5 out of 5 stars – a must-visit Tokyo experience. Embrace the madness and bring...
Read moreTOURIST TRAP.dont fall for it .don quijote IS A RIP OFF. You can find a lot of these exact same items at lower to half price elsewhere. THEY JACK UP THE PRICES and do false sales in order to give you tax free . Even after tax free you are still over paying.dont believe any of those hyped up video on your insta .this location is probably one of the worst . Its near the train station . The street to reach it are so filthy at night .yes its open 24 hrs however this location is relatively small and doesnt that big of a selection of products . The 18+ section ( adult) isnt hidden like other don quijote so you have no privecy.if you want a bigger donki the one in shibuya is better although more crowded than this one . Skip donki there are plenty of better cheapper store in japan . Not that fun not that interesting not that big. I rather support a mom and pop shop own by local and help a family than this...
Read moreThis Donki is by far the worst I’ve ever been to in Japan. Prices are higher and there’s a much smaller selection compared to other Donki stores. When it gets busy, the staff don’t seem to care at all. They only keep one cash register open. We ended up waiting over an hour just to pay.
The layout is also completely confusing. It’s unclear which elevator you can use with your merchandise and which ones are off limits. By accident, we tried to enter the wrong elevator (we obviously weren’t trying to steal, we had a huge basket full of items), and the security guard suddenly hit our basket violently and screamed “OUTSIDE!”, meaning that the elevator led outside.
I’ve never had such an unpleasant or aggressive experience anywhere in Japan. It was honestly traumatizing. Avoid this Donki if you can, there are many others that are much better organized...
