Walking into the Museum Cafe feels like stepping back into a different era. Tucked away in the heart of Valletta, this place isn’t flashy, nor does it pretend to be. It’s a charming slice of local life — a bit worn around the edges, but in a way that feels lived-in and loved, like an old leather jacket or a well-thumbed book.
The food is unpretentious but full of flavor. Take the grilled chicken focaccia, for example: crispy, golden bread, a subtle rosemary aroma, and a simple but satisfying filling that does exactly what it should — hits the spot. Or the lasagna, a classic drenched in a hearty tomato sauce, layered with just the right amount of cheese. It’s the kind of meal you crave after a long day of wandering through Valetta’s old-world laneways.
But beyond the food, it’s the atmosphere, and friendly service, that steals the show. The walls are crammed with nostalgic relics — old clocks, vintage posters, and trinkets that seem to tell a story of the place and its people. There’s a busy-ness to the small space with staff and patrons dotting around each other and the small dining tables which line the walls. You never feel pressured to finish your meal in a rush however and can spend your time soaking in the rhythm that makes this cafe feel more like a local haunt than a tourist spot.
In a city that’s increasingly polished and ready for Instagram, the Museum Cafe is a reminder of something simpler, more genuine. You don’t come here to be seen; you come to eat, relax, and be a part of the...
Read moreA must-visit, beautiful and truly delicious breakfast/brunch stop for anyone exploring Valletta!
Food: For an extremely reasonable price, you’ll get to enjoy fresh, authentic, and seriously delicious Maltese breakfast. Whether it’s a pastizzi, a sandwich, or one of their full breakfast options, nothing here will disappoint and if anything, you’ll wish you had room for more. The warm drinks aren’t quite on the same level as the food, but they’re still perfectly fine and honestly better than what most cafés in Valletta offer. Once you give this place a try, you’ll definitely find yourself coming back for more!
Atmosphere: As good as the food is, the atmosphere might be even better! The café is filled with antique signs and trinkets collected over its 100+ year history, giving it a truly unique and nostalgic feel. It’s like stepping into a Mediterranean time capsule from the last century. While there’s a terrace, the real experience is inside which is cozy, characterful, and full of charm.
People: The staff here are friendly, welcoming, and efficient. Things can feel a bit rushed at times, but that’s only because the place is so popular, and it means you’ll still get served quickly. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, try striking up a conversation with the owner, Sandro, and ask him to share the story...
Read moreNot sure how our experience ended up not to be comparable to those on Google. Our tour guide recommended the museum Cafe and as we wanted to try the Ftira, we headed straight back. The costumer in front of us waited already forever til he was served. When it was our turn, we may have ended up with the wrong person who barely spoke in a level I could hear over the counter. The Ftira was apparently empty, he mumbled something of 5 min which we wouldn't have minded to wait but then he processed to make the most dry and flavorless sandwich I've ever came across. The bread was dry (and I mean dry, not crispy), the chicken had no taste, the coleslaw was just cabbage and that's it, the only flavor had the cheese. Some sprinkles of mayo didn't help the entire thing. And then to pay €5 per sandwich, way too much. Paying with card didn't work even though costumers before me all paid with card. When I said I have cash also, one of the people started loudly mumbling. Overall, wouldn't recommend and get your food...
