My visit to the Astrek Climbing Wall in Kathmandu was an exhilarating experience. Situated conveniently in Thamel, this climbing center offers a unique escape from the usual hustle and bustle of the city. As someone who enjoys physical challenges, I found the facility to be a perfect spot for adventure enthusiasts like me.
The climbing wall itself is impressive, standing tall with various routes catering to different skill levels. As a beginner, I appreciated the friendly guidance from the staff. They were patient, encouraging, and provided a thorough safety briefing before I started. The rental gear, including climbing shoes and harnesses, was in good condition, which gave me additional confidence as I tackled the wall.
One of the things I liked most about Astrek was the vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. I saw climbers of all ages and skill levels, creating a community-like vibe that made the experience even more enjoyable. For those more advanced, there were challenging overhangs and routes that seemed to push even seasoned climbers to their limits.
The open-air setup of the climbing area added to the charm. I loved how it felt connected to nature despite being in the heart of a busy tourist hub. The center also offers refreshments and a cozy seating area, making it a great place to relax after a climb.
On the downside, the facility could benefit from more shaded areas or fans during hot days, as it can get quite warm. However, this didn’t overshadow the overall fun I had.
Astrek Climbing Wall is a fantastic spot for both beginners and experts to test their skills, stay active, and meet like-minded people. I left feeling accomplished and eager to return for...

We never had to wait very long to be able to climb, food was pretty tasty and the service was fast.
While the drinks and food were a little higher in price than we would have liked, it’s thamel so you cant expect much when it comes to value.
For the year it costs 17,500 per person, for a month its 6000, and per session its 700. This includes climbing gear needed and someone to belay you. You can bring your own gear if you have it.
