My husband’s work selected this hotel for us to stay while he attended a conference. I have a laundry list of complaints, some of which the hotel has control over, some of which they do not. Out of their control or unchangeable: the water smells disgusting. It reeks of sulphur. You have to get all consumable water downstairs. The rooms are offensively small. The mattress is framed by the walls and window, and the toilet is in the shower. You can see into all interior facing rooms if their blinds are up from the elevator bank. My husband fell ill our last night and the hotel was extremely unaccommodating when I asked if we could use his corporate rate for my extra room. His company had 10k+ people traveling for this conference and very strict rules about how they could go about making reservations. That, paired with his sudden illness rendering him unable to act as a travel agent to help me find a solution, made it that I had to pay nearly $400 US to stay in the same hotel where my ill husband and all my belongings were currently. For such an expensive hotel, one would expect a higher level of customer service than was ever provided to us. They like to kick responsibility up the chain at this establishment and pretend their hands are tied for any request at all. The man working the front desk developed an attitude with me when I didn’t thank him that evening for the water that I picked up (because remember, the water from the room is disgusting and I was asking for assistance because I didn’t want to touch the water dispenser and spread more germs). He was upset I didn’t thank him when he pointed out that there were already bottles filled and provided no services. I didn’t realize verbal tips were required when no work was done, but I guess the staff at CitizenM require more encouragement. At this point I asked to speak to the manager, where I expressed my dismay. I told him that I took issue with paying a premium for a hotel with no space, rude employees, issues with theft, and constantly malfunctioning elevators (good luck getting up to your room when everyone who is attending the same conference is going up and down the elevators to get breakfast or leave for the day!). You are required to scan your key to get up to your room (a security feature I usually appreciate) but the scanner regularly fails or it simply forgets the button you pressed afterward. The elevators often break and at least one of them has to be dedicated to housekeeping, so there were many occasions where only one elevator was expected to serve all the hotel guests. The manager’s rebuttal to my complaint about the elevators was comical - he said, “that’s been a problem since you got here, it’s not anything new since you paid for this second room!” As if that makes it any better! The phones in the room did not work for us, so any time I needed to call the front desk (I.e. for more towels or to find out if there was a doctor they could connect me with), I had to go downstairs. They also have a theft problem - at least one person in our group had a bag stolen from the lobby during breakfast. So be wary and always keep your belongings close. Oh! And I almost forgot - The pleasure of finding all sorts of foreign hairs in my second expensive hotel room! They have these disgusting pillow dolls that they place in each room, and there is no way that they wash them with any frequency. I found a hair on it upon arrival. There was also a long hair adorning the exterior shower / bathroom curtain facing the bed (so difficult to describe the setup because it is just so incredibly nonsensical) and stains to really keep things exciting. Repulsive. Definitely not worth $400 USD, and it pained me to pay it. I hope I never have the displeasure of staying at a CitizenM again and would go out of my way to stay at any other option close by. The day workers were all nice and accommodating.

The location was good being right next to the Tower Hill train station and a great view. It has air conditioning which was amazing in the heatwave going on in London🥵. Also, they had a variety of plugs for travelers that may not have a UK plug or adapter. The tablet that controls everything (even the lights) was nice and modern. The lobby is nice to sit down and have a coffee and they have a takeaway area if you want to stop in and bring something up to your room. Also, nice stations to check in/out quickly. Critiques here I would give is the app for the tablet are too close together for the TV. You can easily mute the tv trying to hit the buttons. The elevators would act funny and the screens were not working or damaged. Additionally, we asked for an additional pillow and they came over an hour later with it (we just figured they forgot). The shampoo/soaps in the bathroom we couldn’t get to work until the last day. It would have been nice to have conditioner instead of two different shampoo/soaps. Finally, you could get bottle water for free in the to go area (which I’m assume was just from the faucet). It might be nice to have a bottle in the fridge of each room instead of going down to get this for arriving guests and to advertise to refill in the rooms instead of having bottles all over. Overall, it was worth it for the price and location along with the AC! 😊

Few pros many cons A luxury hostel at his best, while they charge you as a 4 stars hotel Pros Location: greatly located in front of Tower Hill tube station Nice common areas with a very good vibe that invite to socialize Rooftop bar with stunning view Canteen prices are affordable Self check-in & check out Cons Very small and claustrophobic rooms Bed is stuck between the walls making it difficult to climb up and descend, even worse if you stay in 2 in the room Bathroom sink located inside the bedroom under the window with ridiculous dimension Room cleaning is defaulted to no, no one tells you about this and to get it cleaned, you need to book it with the tablet the day before by midnight. Out of 4 lifts one was not working and one is reserved to privilege customers There is no room service Overall limited options on canteen menu and even less for food intolerance both at canteen and breakfast In case of technical issues with your room forget that they’ll fix it, in case they offer accept another room. We reported an issue with the power socket near the mirror, the only suitable for the hairdryer, for three days but they never fixed Check in / check out station not illuminated making it complicated to pay Staff rude and uncapable to deal with issue and unhappy customers, they are nice just if you share positive feedback, the only one they expect

What a horrible experience. 1) cleanliness in the common areas of the hotel is appalling - the carpeted hallway leading to my room was strewn with debris (Elastoplasts, toothpicks, random dirt) and even after asking the staff to attend to cleaning it, debris was still clearly visible. 2) the rooms are so small it's not even funny. I came in with a large luggage and a carry on, and I barely have space to lay things out on the floor. For some utterly bizarre reason, the sink unit is outside the WC. Appreciate the control iPad in the room, but it's way too gimmicky to just turn on the lights. 3) the bread at the breakfast is shocking - so stale you could break a tooth. I asked a member of staff about the bread and after giving me a fair amount of attitude for asking the question, I was told the bread is stored in the fridge. I appreciate the motto of the hotel being welcome home or some rubbish like that, but if by welcome home they mean that I clean up myself and get my own breakfast elsewhere, then mission accomplished. UPDATE: during the 5 days I stayed at the hotel, the same Elastoplast remained on the floor in the same area the whole time and wasn't cleaned up, despite letting the staff know. Also, I had take out boxes accumulated in my room for 4 days which weren't cleaned up. Honestly shocking how this place is allowed to operate.

One of the best hotels I've stayed at! I've been to a lot of fancy hotels. CitizenM is not fancy. It is unique. Extremely unique. In fact the concept is genius. While the room I was in was small and in most cases would have been disappointing considering the size, the way it is designed is perfect! It's like being in a sci-fi move. The view of the tower of London and the tower Bridge was incredible. The atmosphere was great. The lobby and downstairs bar and sitting area was very nice and filled with weird books, statues, phrases and more. The elevators had trippy acid looking videos in the mirror. The roof top bar had very talented bartenders and had an absolutely amazing view of the city from multiple different angles. I ended up extending my stay. The beds were very comfortable. The shower was nice and everything was very convenient. I only wish there was cash accepted. Or that they had their own atm. The atm at the tube didn't work for most people and the inconvenience of getting into debt with a credit card at every turn is annoying. I know this is a problem for all of London. I'm just pointing it out. Next time I'm in London I won't have to think twice. The first place I'm checking the availability of will be citizenM.
