This review will cover the not-great pieces before getting to all the good stuff, so read on! I’ll start by saying I’m Canadian-American and I love my food very well seasoned and my beer dark and heavy haha, so I’m biased when it comes to food. The food was hot and quick to come out with large, hearty portions, but it was tasteless and unseasoned in my opinion haha. This was my first attempt at eating standard English food, and I was very sad that the stereotypes might be true regarding the food (TBD after eating at more places because one is not a proper sampling to make generalizations like that). I tried three different brews on tap (all local English brews) and they all tasted light and just kind of weird? Again, will need to continue trying English beer before stating they’re all watered-down tasting and hoppy (I exclusively asked for amber beers).
The whole upstairs inside smelled like cigarette smoke, which is fine for drinking beer but bad for when you’re eating food. Maybe it was just the patrons all smoking and coming in or the windows needing to be sealed better because I didn’t see anyone smoking inside. It was very cold too though and the windows were drafty so maybe that’s why. The big sofa-type chairs were really comfy though & tables were clean!
Despite all this regarding food & atmosphere, the service was SUPERB. It was so good I didn’t even want to dock one star on my review. I wish I knew the bartenders name who worked there when I came in, because she was so kind, patient, helpful, friendly, and just completely lovely, both in words and appearance. What a gem. She went above and beyond to help me acquire a beer to enjoy, letting me sample them after I brought the first back (I was thinking the barrel must’ve run out because it was so tasteless and light that I thought there was something wrong with the tap, not believing the beer just actually tasted like that lmfao) and she spent time talking about which brews were new or popular and answering my questions about recommendations and so on. Truly impressive service. Such a delight to experience.
Management must’ve taken previous reviews to heart about the bathrooms being dirty, because when I used them they were exceptionally clean and tidy and neat. I was so impressed by that. At a pub, I never expect toilets to be clean.
Lastly, this is a convenient location right off the metro station, & I was happy to find that the televisions were not obnoxiously loud, nor the music, nor the patrons. Granted, it was a Monday night after working hours, so not a weekend or...

I attended the Chessire Chesse for a work lunch, it started very well, we had an area pre-booked and the table was nicely laid with Christmas decorations on the walls. The initial waitress took everyone's ordered and of the ten of guests, half of the food came correctly. 45mins later two of the meals had still not been served and my meal, a beef and cheese burger (for which i specifically stated that i do not eat pork for religious reasons) had arrived with a small piece of bacon in it. I had taken two bites of this burger when i felt a strange texture and immediately stopped eating. I showed the piece of bacon to the waitress who then took the burger to the kitchen, agreeing that another burger would be made. At this stage no apology was made. Then a new waiter appeared with my burger stating that the bacon was part of an onion ring. I immediately challenged this as the 'onion ring' was pink with fat on one of the edges. He then took the burger back to the kitchen who consequently refused to make me another burger. Whilst this charade was occurring, two of the meals had still not arrived. The waiter came back, very angrily refusing to remake the burger (please note an apology was still not made). After debating he offered to take the burger off of the bill. Whilst i sat there with no food, the original waiter came to check everything was ok, I mentioned my lack of food and that two of the guests had still not eaten. She hurried away, of course not apologising, and within ten minutes brought back a burger with a large piece of bacon on top of it, duplicated one of the ladies meals and got the last guest's meal wrong. When i reiterated that i could not eat a burger containing pork due to religious reasons she placed the burger in front of me and served the rest of the table. I asked for her to remove the burger, for which her response was a grunt before angrily moved the burger. The meal continued to get worse but i do not want to bore you to death. I would definitely not recommend this to anyone who is taking their clients for a quick drink or for anyone who has any form of dietary...
Read moreI’ve been to two other Cheshire Cheese pubs, and none of them have disappointed, this one is no exception.
I’d heard there was a Cheshire Cheese pub near Tower Bridge, but I wasn’t exactly sure where it was until I randomly stumbled upon it. From the outside, it looked inviting, with a nice seating area and the impression that it would be spacious inside. So I decided to pop in and give it a go.
When I stepped in, I noticed a bunch of screens, not just for sports, but also showing various ads and promotions. It threw me off a bit, but it also made me think this pub probably gets a lot of attention and must have a good reputation if companies are advertising here.
Inside, the pub was indeed pretty and spacious. I know there’s a second floor, but I stayed on the main floor with the main bar.
When I approached the bar, the bartender was very welcoming. I’ll be honest though, I wasn’t quite myself that day, so apologies if I didn’t respond as normally as I should have.
I ordered myself a half pint of IPA and sat inside, taking in more of the atmosphere. It was quite relaxing since it wasn’t busy at the time. I can imagine it gets much busier, judging by the amount of empty glasses outside. Ideally, the bartenders would collect them, but I understand it’s not always possible, especially since I only saw one bartender working. If they’re not allowed to leave the bar unattended, or if another staff member was on break, that would explain it.
I had a look at the food and drink prices on the menu and behind the bar, and I was honestly surprised at how cheap everything was, especially for central London. It was shocking in the best way.
I didn’t order any food, as I wasn’t hungry, and I didn’t see any being served to other customers, so I can’t comment on that.
Overall, from my short visit, I found the pub relaxing, the bartender friendly, and the atmosphere great. My only suggestion would be to clear the glasses outside when possible, if staff can leave the bar, since it’s not the nicest sight having them scattered...
