Iāve had multiple disappointing experiences with this studio, and I feel itās important to share for the sake of transparency and accountability. My main concern is the ongoing lack of clear communication ā especially around class pricing and policies ā which has caused confusion and, frankly, frustration.
First, the āYoga in the Parkā class. Nowhere on the website, in emails, or on social media does it clearly state that this is a paid class. Itās extremely misleading, especially since other paid classes do list their prices. When I attended, the instructor didnāt know the cost, and I was told I had to register on the spot. I used a free class credit from my account, only to be contacted later with a rude message claiming I needed to pay anyway. So my credit was used and I was expected to pay additional money? This left a bad taste in my mouth and felt very unprofessional.
Second, I previously attended a ācommunityā Sunday class in the winter. While I understand that these classes are led by student instructors, this one felt more like a private event. The class was filled with the instructorās coworkers and friends, and the environment wasnāt welcoming to newcomers. After the class, I chose not to join a group photo with everyone, and left quietly with my own mat. Later, I received a call from the front desk accusing me of stealing someoneās mat. I explained that I never took my hands off my own. Instead of an apology, I was dismissed and spoken to rudely.
After experiencing this pattern ā unclear policies, untrained staff, and poor communication ā I no longer feel that this studio is inclusive or community-oriented. I gave it more than one chance, but each time I felt like an outsider and was treated without respect.
Please do better: ⢠Clearly post prices for all classes (yes, even the outdoor ones) ⢠Ensure instructors know the cost in case people ask on-site ⢠Train front desk staff to handle concerns with professionalism and kindness
I had hoped to find a welcoming yoga community, but unfortunately, this has been...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis will always be a very special place to me. Before moving to Chicago in the middle of the pandemic, I had never set foot in a yoga studio. The only yoga that my wife and I had EVER done was online via YouTube videos in our tiny NYC studio apartment when everything shut down, which was mainly because we didnāt have many other options. But we ended up loving it! Fast forward to moving to Chicago and looking for a holistic place to practice (the core power type of āsportsā yoga didnāt appeal to us), and we realized that the Yoga Now studio was just a short walk away. We took our first class and were greeted warmly by the front desk, led in a beautiful class by Maureen (who made us feel like we had been there a hundred times), and were welcomed back with smiles. I loved it so much that I took a part time job there, which is when I really got to know a lot of the amazing humans that make up the incredible community.
I grew up in the south playing baseball, basketball, football & golfā¦yoga was never something I would have considered. I was not used to yoga studios by any meansā¦but this place welcomed me as I was, where I was & encouraged my growth, physically & spiritually. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to practice with Joanne, Tomoko, Corinne, Taylor, Moe, Adrian & Tiffany, who all taught me so much. Amy has built a unique, beautiful community, filled with people who genuinely want to make this world a better place. Yoga will forever be a part of my life, and this studio has a lot to do with that.
If you are thinking about starting to practice yogaā¦come here. If you are looking for a new studio that accepts you wherever you are in your practiceā¦come here. If you are looking for a community of like minded humans that want to see more good in this worldā¦come here. I miss this place and these people...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love this yoga studio! In four words it's warm, thoughtful, encouraging, and peaceful. After moving to Chicago recently, I was looking for a studio to replace the one I adored in my old city, and after trying ~10 studios, Yoga Now stood out to me immediately upon entering and hasn't let me down since. The instructors are experts, so you can really learn yoga and develop your practice here. While they bring their expertise and challenge every person in the room, all instructors I have had class with still maintain a really welcoming environment for new joiners to the studio or to yoga as a whole. There's a focus on connection here, and though I'm no expert in yoga, I feel a level of authenticity at this studio that I've missed at others. I always leave this studio feeling better than when I arrived, and only wish I had more time in the week to come more often. Teachers also very much have their own styles which keep classes varied and interesting. Highly recommend - you...
