There's nothing like slapping some thin, sharp objects on your feet & taking a whirl around a cold rink to make you feel like a kid again! Or at least you can skate with them for a while...
I like the rink at the Galleria, though it's a touch too small (I like the big one in the Houston Galleria better). It's size lends itself to over crowding, but it's not like most of us are out there to speed skate or do a bunch of jumps and whatnot. They take good care of the rink and make sure to clean the ice frequently so you're not tripping over divots in the ice all the time.
If you have your own skates, you can avoid the rental fee ($3), though you're still paying for a skating pass itself (around $8 for a day). I wasn't impressed with the rented skates, but much like a roller rink, I'm sure the skates have been used & abused well past their life expectancy. They also have classes for kids & adults, which have different meeting times throughout the week.
And, if you're not in the mood to skate yourself, there's plenty of areas from which to watch and snap photos. Once you're done flinging yourself in circles, you can take a seat & rest, or you slide on over to one of the nearby restaurants for a bite to eat (or a much needed adult beverage).
I love the rink for what it is: it adds some charm to the Galleria, provides me with another option for physical activity, and allows for some great...

there are a lot of “pro skaters” I would NOT recommend this place for any kids just learning or one day on the ice. I’d go to the children’s star center or find other skating areas .
the instruction is very unclear. For example ticket sales are in the skate shop (there is a sign for this) but then what? With out asking I wouldn’t have known what to give the skate rental place , where to enter to line up and get it in etc …
That brings me to #3) the man at the skate rental shop was so SOOO SOO rude. At first I thought it was just his personality but he seemed very friendly with all the little girls on the skate team and the moms but I asked a simple question “do you do any rollers like rollerblading “ and he was so condescending “that would be dangerous in a public setting “ hmm ok ? A simple “no, but he can use the railing” would have sufficed. But hey whatever. What was the icing on the cake as my son returned his skates and said thank you the man never acknowledged him at ALL but said to the lady dropping her skates off “you all done? Have a good one!”
My son looked at me and said “well that wasn’t nice” he’s 8! I truly hope this man is just rude and not discriminating gender.
Simply put...

My wife, my 2 young kids and we’re in Dallas for a work conference and we’re in the Galleria mall. There’s a ice skating rink inside and my 2 kids, 3 and 6 years old, wanted to go ice skating. Neither of them have ever been on ice skates so of course they needed some help. My wife is disabled and in a wheelchair and took my kids out in the ice. She has been on plenty of ice rinks in the past with no issues. After about 15 minutes of her being on the ice 2 members of their staff came out and told her she had to leave. She was helping our littles get their bearings and hadn’t done anything wrong. They had a million excuses of why she couldn’t be out there. No signs. No policies posted or in writing anywhere about not being able to go out there. It was huge embarrassment for my wife. The more they gave excuses, the more they changed and elaborate they became. The last one and best one is if she was in a manual wheelchair it would be ok. Never have I seen such discrimination against a disabled person! In the end they offered a refund but it doesn’t make up for their behavior, attitude and lack of respect that they showed my wife. Needless to say, this will not end with...
