Historic Bullock Hotel — Attraction in Deadwood

This hotel itself is nice. There has been an effort to keep it as original as possible. However, it is sadly lacking in service.|We paid over 300.00USD per night, for 6 nights to stay while the Kool Nights Car show was on. We paid for a deluxe queen room. It had two queen beds, with somewhat comfortable mattresses and terrible pillows and there was lots of space in the room itself. There were 2 vanities - one outside of the washroom and one inside of it. Both had 6 lights over top of them. Neither one had 6 lights that worked and despite asking everyday for the lightbulbs to be changed, the one that had only 3 lights working, was never fixed. We also asked for an extra blanket every single day, to no avail. As a matter of fact, we were told, in not so many words, to open our eyes and we would see the blanket. There was not one there and I was appalled that a staff person would speak to a guest in that manner. We had to request housekeeping every day as otherwise, it was not done, despite being assured it was a daily service. And when it was done, it was not done well - sometimes only the wet towels were picked up - with no dry ones left for our use. The sinks were never cleaned once in the 6 nights we were there. Whenever we brought up an issue to the staff, the response was always, gee - I don't know about that.| Parking is across the street and we were given a placard that had to be placed on the dash in order to park there. Not a big deal, but the hotel did not have anyone monitoring the lot, so many times it was full, being utilized by non-hotel guests.|I think that the hotel has great promise, however management is certainly an issue. It seems to me that there is no one checking up on the housekeeping staff or standards and certainly there should have been an attendant monitoring the parking lot at all times. For 300.00 per night, this was totally unacceptable. When I spoke to the staff upon departure and mentioned this, the reply was "oh, you were one of those rooms that had housekeeping issues". Seriously - do better Bullock management and staff!!|I am a travel consultant and can never see myself recommending this hotel to my clients. Which is too bad, because the building itself has great promise. And we won't be returning to this hotel next time we are...

I recently stayed at Historic Bullock Hotel and had an incredibly disappointing experience. Upon arrival, we discovered that the toilet in our room was not functioning properly. Despite notifying the hotel staff immediately, they failed to take any action to address the issue. It was already late in the evening, leaving us with no choice but to use the bathroom facilities in the lobby.

Not only was this inconvenience frustrating, but it also severely impacted the quality of our stay. We had paid for a room with a functional toilet, and it is completely unacceptable that the hotel failed to provide this basic amenity.

In the morning, we approached the hotel management to discuss the situation and request a partial refund for the inconvenience caused. To our dismay, they outright refused to engage in any meaningful communication or offer any form of compensation. This lack of accountability and disregard for guest satisfaction is deeply disheartening.

Moreover, the unresponsiveness and dismissive attitude of the staff throughout our stay only added to our disappointment. It is clear that customer service is not a priority for this establishment.

I strongly advise potential guests to reconsider staying at Historic Bullock Hotel. The lack of attention to maintenance issues, combined with the unprofessional and unhelpful staff, creates an incredibly unsatisfactory experience. I expected much better from a hotel of this caliber.

I sincerely hope that the management of Historic Bullock Hotel takes this feedback seriously and makes the necessary improvements to avoid similar experiences...

There are still some refreshingly old west elements to this historic hotel. It's in a great location, right on main street, in about the center so you can easily walk anywhere in town. The rooms are nice, and the bed is comfortable. The comforter is warm. However, you probably don't want to stay here in the winter. Being a tourist town, they lay off most of their staff and the hotel is run by 1 person. 1 person to run the front desk, gaming floor, and bar. The "bar" doubles as the "restaurant" and though there is a griddle, deep fryer and prep line behind the bar, management wisely decided that cooking on top of all the other duties was just too much for one person.

All that aside, the Bullock doesn't have heat. Not really. There was a thermostat in my room which I set at 90, but it didn't make a difference. It was in the 50s in my room. I was later informed that they didn't have the boiler turned up. I'm not sure why, everyone seemed to know temperatures were going to be below zero with a high of 4 degrees, but no one had the foresight to turn the boiler up, in late December, over Christmas. This wasn't an early cold night in September or October, it was December.

I had to use towels to cover the gap at the bottom of my door to stop the colder hallway draft from coming in. The tile bathroom floor? Brrr. Thankfully the down comforter was really warm. I still had to sleep in my clothes with my flannel shirt and wool socks on though.

Bottom line, probably great in the summer, but see, old west elements still...
