My wife an I have been to Deadwood several times and always wanted to try the Social Club and I am really glad we did on this trip. We stopped by for lunch and the place was modestly busy. We got seated quickly and our server Austin was very attentive and kept our glasses full throughout the meal. We started with the Cobb Brussels which were amazing for such a simple dish. The pork belly was crispy but still moist and cut into cubes large enough to eat as a single bite or cut and eaten along with the sprouts for a more inclusive taste of the dish. The balsamic glaze was spot on! For our meal my wife had the Rueben while I had the fried chicken sandwich. The Rueben was sizable for the price and the corned beef was sliced thick. The chicken was a little too salty but still good and I enjoyed eating it. The onion rings were also worth noting and seemed hand dipped. The meal was so good we came back for dinner the same day.
For dinner I had the Seafood Nest and she had the Wild Boar Bolognese. Both meals were absolutely delicious and we were both very satisfied with our choices. For dessert I had the tiramisu and my wife had the crème brulee. Both were amazing! Dinner was a bit busier and we were seated in a front room with a large party of other diners. The room was a bit noisy due to the number of people in the space and talking was a bit of a challenge because of it. Some soft wall coverings would go a long way to mitigate this issue. Despite the noise, we loved our food and the service was great so we will definitely be back the next time we are in Deadwood. They missed one star for the salty chicken sandwich and the noisy...
Read moreDisclaimer - MANY businesses in Deadwood are short staffed. Help Wanted signs are everywhere, and many businesses including this one have "please be nice to our staff" signs posted. Times are rough. We arrived around 2:00 and the hostess was so flustered trying to manage indoor and outdoor seating she couldn't remember who came in first or what was available. We were seated within 10 minutes. The table was sticky. After sitting there for 15 minutes I grabbed a bar rag and spray bottle from an adjacent unbussed table, at which point staff ran over, asked if the table was sticky and tried telling us it was the sanitizer. If you're running a restaurant where people EAT, don't use sanitizer that makes menus, glassware, silverware, your patrons' ARMS, etc stick to the tables. It's gross. Service was slow - there was ONE kid waiting on around 6 tables including a table of 10, bussing the tables, and bringing food out. It took close to an hour to get our pasta and at that point we only ate it because we were starving. Portions were small, the ravioli was borderline old/dry and the sauce tasted off. All my daughter could taste in hers was onions. Best part of the meal was the canned local beer. Waiter asked how eveything was. I said it was ok but he could tell it wasn't and asked what he could do to make it better than ok. I just asked to top off the water and get the check, since in my head all I could think was that he would have had to order new food from somewhere else to make it better and we just wanted to get out of there. Not his fault. Our hotel manager had recomnended this place but even with the circumstances...
Read moreIn 2014 we first visited Deadwood and we had dinner at the Deadwood Social Club. At that time I believed I had eaten one of the best meals of my life. The service was amazing, the food was delicious and cooked perfectly and I could have died happy that day. Fast forward to today. What a difference six years makes. We again found ourselves back in Deadwood and the Social Club was on our must do list. I wish we had left well enough alone. Today the server forgot our appetizers, failed to make sure our drinks were refilled. My filet came out way over cooked and when I told the server she seemed surprised that I would want them to cook me a new one. I mean I guess is was expected to pay $34 for an overdone, dry steak. She reluctantly got me a new steak, which took quite awhile. Instead of bringing a new dinner I had to eat the sides while waiting for the steak and then had to eat the steak by itself. Not the way to enjoy an expensive meal. My wife had the fettuccine Alfredo and she said the quality was nowhere near what it was the last time she had it there. To top it off, we never saw a single manager. I guess that is why the service and food is now subpar. If the manager stays hidden they have no way of knowing if their guests are enjoying themselves. So, if you want to pay too much for so-so food and so-so service then go the the Social Club. If you want a good meal and good service I would suggest...
