I love that they're having more DJs these days and hope that they have even more from Relentless Beats and other producers like Insomniac.
One thing I noticed is that when you look back from the stage... DJs are looking at beer signs. This is a disservice to the performers, to the venue, the owners of the venue, and to Flagstaff and this entire region of the state. Perhaps a large screen with a cheap projector, showing off some cool moving graphics and video of all the amazing things in northern Arizona... IE the San Francisco Peaks, Sedona, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, etc etc would make the performers happier and want to come back to this theater more and more often. It's better than them being sad and bummed out looking at a bunch of beer signs.
There's a lot that could be done here to tweak the sound to be even more special... The lights could be further improved too. Today both lights and speakers are about 75% cheaper than the cost of what they were just 10 years ago - and they're about 5 times better, so they really should go through a nice upgrade.
Also the Orpheum could have double shows... They could have their normal music shows starting at 5p or 6p or 7p and be done 2-3 hours later, then start with the DJs at 8p or 9p or 10p, effectively doubling their revenues every year.
Flagstaff, being Arizona's most expensive city, needs more entertainment and has more people with more money to go out more often, so let's maximize the offerings at the Orpheum for sure.
And David the bartender is awesome... Such...
Read moreVery nice space for events. We went to see a drag show and although it wasn't what my partner or myself were used to, we still had a very enjoyable time. Not sure if it's an Arizona thing, but there was a lot of tipping of the performers during the show, and it really detracted from the performance value. That being said, it was still really nice to see how excited the crowd was. And all of the performers were very nice! My partner and I were feeling pretty tired so we took our seats towards the middle of the show and one of the drag queens checked on us to make sure we were having fun. It was super cute.
Four star review is due to the staff not understanding the payment system for bar tabs. We only had two drinks each, one when we opened the tab and one in the middle of the show. When we got our second round they tried to put it on the wrong tab and then when we paid our tab they tried to have us pay the wrong bill. Seems they are putting a little too much faith in people's honesty. The staff should probably be trained a little better.
The venue itself, though, was very nice. Good sound system, nice lighting effects, spacious area in front of the theatre seating that would make a good dance floor for concerts. Bar was well appointed with cocktails, micros,...
Read moreJust left the Gregory Alan Isakov show. We got there early and were able to grab the exact seats we wanted - front row and centered up on the balcony. The view was great and the seats were comfortable.
I've seen this artist perform at various other venues, and dang if the sound just was a bit off. I made some small talk with a few people around me, and they all agreed that it just wasn't right. But that's not the problem here.
Why the 1 star? It rests wholly and fully on the bar staff. The 3 or 4 people working the right-side bar were so incredibly loud that it was terribly distracting from the music. I watched all of them at various times just encourage and carry on overly loud conversations with each other and with various guests. I was in the balcony and could clearly hear their conversation over the amplified music. I watched several guests who were sitting at the tables nearby turn their heads and actually "Shush" the bar staff because they were being rude and distracting. It was honestly pretty disrespectful to the performers, and the paying guests who were there to enjoy the music.
I really don't think I would be excited about going to another show at The Orpheum. It was such a...
