I joined this church shortly after September 11 2001 and I eventually stopped going due to the environment and parishioners who felt it was accepted by God to look down their noses at you. When I called the office to ask for mass hours and what I needed to do to become a member, the secretary was leas than helpful. She stated “well you’re not doing this just because of September 11th are you? We have a lot of people doing that now.” She went on to say, “I just don't want to sign you up and a month from now you stop coming.” 😳 I loved the church so I put aside what she said and I told her no. I was in shock someone in the church actually said something like that out loud. I had already been in the church for two years and had just moved back here. If I WAS a person turning to the church after September 11th, I should have still been welcomed with open arms as that is what God teaches us. The importance of keeping up with parishioner files should NOT be what’s important. I attended this church for a month and stopped going due to the parishioners being very cold and seemed to attend service as something they could add to their life resume. The service was boring and more like a boardroom meeting. The only highlight my entire time there was the children's teachers. They were so nice and comforting to the parents and children. If you are thinking of joining a church to become closer to God, you are better looking elsewhere. If you need something good to put on your resume with prestige,...
Read moreWe recently visited the “contemporary” 11:11 service as members of a Methodist church in Dallas. As a gay couple, we were hopeful for a welcoming and Christ-centered experience, but unfortunately we left feeling deeply uncomfortable and disappointed.
The service did not feel Christian-based — not once was the name of Jesus mentioned, and instead the message leaned heavily into political commentary, particularly around gun control. That’s not what we were seeking in worship.
We love and follow Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and it was disheartening to attend a service that seemed more like a universalist gathering than a Christian one. We could not stay through the sermon and left early.
We are thankful for our home church, Lovers Lane Methodist, which accepts us for who we are while remaining firmly rooted in biblical teaching and the message of Christ. My prayer is that those attending here will seek and truly...

A traditional service at 11 o'clock. If you're wanting a little more relaxed and informal, upbeat, band playing fun service then you can go to the 11:11 service in Wesley Hall. I hear, but I've never been to another new and enlightening worship service The Gathering that starts at 9:30 I believe, in the chapel and it's got its whole other format.
I applaud FUMC for reaching out to everyone and anyone. We are all on our own journey, Just trying to make our way. The theme of love, support and help your neighbor carries throughout the...
