This last week was our first visit to Reata since the move to their new location. For the food, our party found things to be hit and miss as far as overall quality. As for the location, it is a real letdown and step down from the wonderful and creative space they had on Sundance Square. Service was spotty to poor.
First the food. Started with drinks. The Texas 75 was very popular with the ladies in our group. I had the Fort Worth Old Fashion and it was the best Old Fashion I have ever had. I don’t know why but it was. I had a cup of the Jalapeno Cilantro soup to start. To tell the truth, I could not tell that there was either jalapeno or cilantro in it. It was just this thick, almost gravy, greenish liquid with little to no flavor. My wife had the Field Greens with Texas Goat Cheese, San Saba Pecans. The greens were fresh and plentiful, loads of pecans. But the goat cheese was barely noticeable, not at all what salads like that should be. So give it a B- at best for starters. After appetizers, I ordered a glass of wine to accompany my entre. Our server said he would bring it right away. It came just at about the time the entrées had been finished and plates cleared. For main courses, my wife had the Tenderloin Tamales. There are three of them and they are very large and extremely good. She could only finish one of them, so the other two were packed up and taken home for dinner for both of us the next night. A+. I had the Jalapeño Cilantro Crusted Texas Red Fish. Again, perhaps they forgot to put any jalapeno or cilantro in it, because neither flavor was there. But, worst of all is that the redfish was way way way overcooked, to the point where it lost flavor of any kind. If we were not going to the theatre after and had more time, I would have sent it back. D- Of the others in our party, by far the best dish looked to be the Carne Asada topped with Reata's Cheese Enchiladas. Because things were a bit slow, we had no time for dessert. Plus, our server took a good 15 minutes between taking credit cards and finally getting them back for signing. One other comment on service, our waiter began by taking all of our orders, then 10 minutes later he came back and said he had lost the paper he had written on, so could we all order again. So, service throughout was somewhere between incompetent, lazy and slow.
Now the décor. The old location was creative, expansive, varied by location and not crowded or jammed in. This new space is much much smaller, pretty much exchangeable in terms of look and feel with any ordinary western theme steakhouse. And, we felt the tables were really jammed together, perhaps compensating for how small it is compared to the Sundance Square location. All of this said, I can’t see myself ever returning when there are so many better restaurants at this price range within a few blocks in...
Read moreCame to town for a concert, wanted an awesome steak from a local restaurant and not a chain. Decided to give Reata a chance. Being within walking distance from our Hotel, why Not Showed up and sat at the Open Bar, all the Bartenders were very alert and eager to help and serve us Zero complaints with their service Apps came out, bacon wrapped Jalapeño stuffed with crab cake mixture. Served with grits Delicious Salad was served next, we opted for the wedge. Very good and well presented salad with great flavor from the dressing My wife ordered to redfish & I ordered a 16oz Ribeye at $3.50 a pound. Why not, we’re on a weekend getaway. When the food came out the Redfish looked great, my steak on the other hand was cooked fine. This was confirmed by the food runner having me cut into it while he reached over my back with a flashlight to help verify? Well it was cooked med-well and looked good but for a $56-$58 steak there was a burnt end that is normally the CAP on a ribeye, my favorite part and indication of a great cut of Beef Well there was none at all Just gristle and burned shriveled gristle around the edge I asked about the Cap and the young man asked me what I was talking about. Clearly he has never cut a ribeye steak or knew anything about what the best part of a ribeye is Either way the bartender sent it back and knew what I was talking about and I figured it would be back quickly Well after 15min my wife was done eating, my steak was still MIA and we were ready to go Told the bartender I no longer wanted the steak and was ready to for the check About 5 minutes later my steak showed up. We were not paying for it because after waiting so long I had lost my appetite. Stinks because we purposely did not eat a lunch because we knew we would go eat something really good together with No kids Well I ate a few bites of my wife’s redfish and was full after waiting so long We were asked if we wanted the new steak boxes up, we are in a Hotel and for the price we were not interested Homestly speaking, I have had waaaaay better steak at Texas Road House. The steak I was given was a $20 steak at most It was the type of Ribeye that when you are looking at Ribeyes to buy you Pass this type up and never think twice I buy them on clearance and cut them up for stew meat Not to serve my family Most upsetting issue was that not Once did any form of Management come talk to us or try and make it right Tonight was a complete failure on the kitchen managers part and the managers part Their employees can only do So much and without support in tough situations like this they should be ashamed Will be back one day but will not order a steak from here ever again Sucks cause I was really looking forward to...
Read moreFantastic food, awesome ambiance, and outstanding service. Reata never fails to impress! Even approaching the restaurant you are greeted warmly by the valets, again at the hostess station, and briskly whisked away to your table. First impressions come natural to Reata. This place really sets the bar for service in high end dining. I want to recognize Andre for the amazing dinner we had and the next level service. He went above and beyond to make our dinner relaxing and to provide the best waiting I've seen in years. Quick with drink suggestions and popularity for the ones he hadn't tried. We were impressed. My compliments to the bartender on 2/26. You have shown that regardless of high demand due to a very popular restaurant that drinks can still be prepared precisely and quickly. I'm not kidding we had a Texas 75 Martini and the Fort Worth Old Fashioned and they were on our table in 5min or less!!! Andre again impressed us with the suggestion for a starter. We had the Bacon Wrapped Crab Stuffed Jalapenos. Honestly the best Jalapenos I've ever eaten. They must be doing some crazy voodoo magic back there in the kitchen 😂 For my wife's entree Andre suggested the game of the day which was Elk Tenderloin served with bacon brussel sprouts and jalapeno cheese grits. She absolutely loved it. Personally I liked it, but may have been a little better if cooked a tad less. For my entree Andre suggested his favorite meal which was the Cowboy Ribeye with some amazing butter over the top. It was served on a bed of mashed potatoes with grilled asparagus and a stuffed tomato. I was very impressed with the steak (which was cooked to perfection). I ordered medium rare. I think this may take the cake for the best Ribeye in Fort Worth. That's right, Del Frisco's, isn't the best... Every part of my meal was so tasty and delicious I really can't put a finger on what I liked best. It all exceeded my expectations. Which if I didn't mention are already very high for this establishment. You will not be disappointed. Reata ensures you have a relaxing and romantic time downtown if you choose to dine here. Last but not least we finished our meal with the Molten Chocolate Cake with Drunken Berries. If you haven't tried this at Reata you need to. I've been coming here and ordering this dessert for 10+ years and it's still just as good. All the other desserts are awesome too. Trust me, I've tried them all!
In conclusion, best service, best steak, best bartender, best dessert, and best time you could ask for here at Reata! Andre...
