A Gem for Families!
South Carolina Children's Theatre has become a beloved destination for our family, offering top-notch performances and enriching acting classes that have exceeded our expectations time and time again.
We've attended several performances at the theatre, and each one has been of the highest quality, well-executed, and thoroughly entertaining. These shows have become a staple for our family's affordable and enjoyable nights out. And the location is so convenient, being just at the edge of Downtown Greenville and within walking distance to restaurants for after show enjoyment.
Moreover, our daughter is enrolled in their acting classes, and the experience has been nothing short of fantastic. The teachers at South Carolina Children's Theatre are not only kind and supportive but also incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about theater. It's evident that they are dedicated to nurturing young talent and instilling a love for the arts in their students. Our daughter is not only having fun but also gaining valuable skills and insights into theater and acting. She is genuinely excited to attend each class, eager to grow her abilities, meet new friends, and one day grace the stage in real productions.
Overall, South Carolina Children's Theatre has become an integral part of our family's life. We wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking high-quality entertainment and educational programs for...
Read more2+ years into the pandemic, at which point everyone has had plenty of exposure to covid19, and ample time to be vaxxed if they so desire, this theater is doubling down not just on masks (if you wonder how that works for theater... it doesn’t), but on vax requirements TO AUDITION. Including, drum roll... for CHILDREN.
Yep, children. Who have never been at risk from this virus. A vax doesn’t reduce transmission or stop infection, all it does is possibly reduce your personal symptoms. Which kids already don’t have.
What is the point exactly?
Also, masks are ubiquitous. Again, why? If the vaxes work, why the masks? If the masks work, why the vaxxes? If kids are NOT AT RISK, why either?? My mind is blown and it’s simple to not attend anything here or bring my kids to audition.
Why would I trust a local theater to dictate my or my child’s medical choices?
Thank goodness other local theaters don’t have any such nonsensical, science-ignoring requirements. Anyone interested, check out...
Read moreWe recently attended a production of Matilda at the South Carolina Children’s Theatre and were very disappointed by the inclusion of content that felt completely inappropriate for a young audience. One character’s exaggerated and overly suggestive movements—including hip gyrating and other adult-style dancing—felt out of place in a family show designed for children.
We expected a playful and age-appropriate adaptation of a classic story, but instead, we were shocked by a performance that felt more like a display of adult-themed humor and behavior than a celebration of childhood imagination. It was uncomfortable to watch, and I regret not leaving mid-show. We believe theater for children should prioritize storytelling, creativity, and inclusivity without crossing into material that feels intentionally provocative.
Unfortunately, this experience has made us question whether we can trust SCCT to provide safe and age-appropriate entertainment for families...
