The Candy BAR (Behind the Scene) — Restaurant in Laconia

This place is exactly what the City needs. Laconia is a former mill town struggling to find a new identity. Downtown has previously dedicated itself to social services desperately needed to serve the recovering community. However, the Candy Bar is a breath of fresh air that is leading the way to revitalize the City. Though most of downtown is closed after 7:00pm, the Candy Bar, and its sister location, Defiant Records, is open late into the evening, giving Downtown Laconia a sense of nightlife and purpose. The food is great, and unique to the industry. The drinks are constantly changing with the seasons while maintaining a sense of continuity with traditional staples. The atmosphere provides an ambiance that lends to a relaxing vacation getaway or a reprieve from the daily grind. I was reluctant to provide a review solely for the fact of letting everyone in on the secret of how amazing this place is!!! This is BY FAR the best kept secret in town - this bar has become my favorite!! I had never been to a “speakeasy” before and when I found out about this place, I knew I had to go! It was so much fun to walk into the candy store to find the “secret” candy in order to get into the bar. Once I walked through the little faux Coca-Cola machine, it was like I stepped into an entirely different place! The lounge/bar atmosphere is amazing - so relaxing and the decor was spot on! Real candy shop in the front. Amazing vibe in the back. The Bootlegger was one of the best meals I've ever had. The chicken tenders on it were PHENOMENAL and it was made with the legendary Brothers donut. Sweet, savory, complex flavor. Got one of their old fashioned special drinks...again very delicious. Wife got the Garden Gatsby and she loved it. Can't beat the prices for the quality of the food. I left feeling stuffed. We were treated with some awesome live music by one man.
