My wife and I got married down on Fremont with family and friends on Saturday, but since our officiant was a visiting family member rather than a legal officiant we knew we had to dot the i’s and cross the t’s at the Civil Marriages Office the next day. We were so happy with the two lovely people we interacted with at the Civil Marriages Office! Natalia was the person who performed the ceremony and handled the paperwork and she was just so kind and lovely. We figured this would be done by a bland bureaucrat who was just going through the motions but Natalia was bubbly and happy for us, and really made it better than we expected. It’s tough to describe, but it just felt like she understood that her job is meaningful to the people she’s marrying and she made an effort to convey as much heartfelt kindness to us as she could during our limited 15min of time together. I hope she knows how awesome she is at her job, she rocks! The security guard at the front desk was also so friendly and nice too, and while I didn’t get her name she was chatting with us in the lobby while we waited and as we got back down the elevator after our ceremony she gave us a very nice congratulations; the first time we’d gotten to be congratulated as newlyweds!!! At the end of the day it’s a courthouse wedding so there’s no fireworks or Vegas lights, but the people here are the exact type of folk I think should be working here because they made our very ordinary courthouse ceremony time much more memorable than we thought it would be due to how nice and...
Read moreI got there with my fiance on Saturday, 11th around 1:30PM. Got in line, and waited like everyone else that was there. Luckily, the line wasn't too bad. We got to window #2. Told the clerk that I pre-registered online (recommended), so we didn't have any paperwork to fill out. The clerk too both our Nevada licenses, looked it over to get our names. Then proceeded to look for our pre-registered record. She then looked at the record and looked and asked us why our parents names are listed as "unknown". I proceeded to tell her that we don't know our parents' name. She then looked at us and said with an attitude, "you both don't know your parents? It's required." I told her I don't know because I never knew them (we are both Vietnamese refugee orphans). She didn't believe us. That's when I got a little angry and told her, "what would you like for me to fill in there? I don't know who they were"! She then stopped looking at me and only looked at my fiancee for the rest of the transaction. This clerk (younger african american lady) Worse attitude ever! IF ANYONE FROM CLARK COUNTY IS READING THIS. YOUR STAFF NEEDS TO LEARN...
Read moreEveryone was nice and efficient, and the ceremony was private and just enough time for us. I appreciate the officiant’s patience with us setting up devices for both a Skype call and a video recording.
I was only unhappy about the vows. We told the officiant we had our own vows and they still had us say “I do” to the scripted traditional vows before saying our own. We specifically wanted a court wedding with our own vows to avoid the traditional vows based in religion as we are both atheists, and thinking back I don’t think we had to have the traditional ones to make it legal.
Otherwise the ceremony was great, and the officiant was even considerate enough to step out of the camera frame while we said our own vows. We were able to purchase and receive our certificate within a week also (if you get letters from other services saying they can get your certificate faster, and you live in LV, don’t bother with them and just go through the government website. It was much faster.)
Overall a good experience, and I understand it may can be difficult to be on the same page with so little time since the appointments are...
