This seaside attraction is famous for the surf, beach, tourism, athletes working out and street performers working the crowd in. Famous for the Venice Beach Skateboard Park, Muscle Beach and Muscle Beach and most of all for the Venice Beach Boardwalk! Where there’s unusual stores and shops of handcrafted items, jewelry and art. As Venice is an artists community of all art! There’s vendors peddling t-shirts, hats, sandals, keychains and bottle openers. Day sellers set up trying to make a living, somehow selling the ‘out of the ordinary’ items. Many visitors conform in-sync to the scene, coming to obtain and show off henna tattoos, henna hair, green, pink and yellow hair, mohair and the mohawk. Take in the ocean views, where bikes ride with roller skaters and skate boarders roll the ‘walk, while skim and surf boards rule the waves! I may take my out of town visitors here to check it out… Here they can experience the Venice Beach Walk for themselves, going thru the shops and stops. I think it can be a bit weird and amusing for them to see! Windward avenue seems to be Venice Central, where the traffic circle and the over-the-street ‘Venice’ sign is seen, before visitors on their own power make it to the Venice Beach Boardwalk, a north and south paved path for several blocks. There’s the famous landmark at Windward Plaza, "Declaration" by Mark di Suvero, a 60’ oxidized steel I-beam sculpture at the end of Windward Ave at the Boardwalk. A restroom structure is located just south of there beside the ‘Walk. A bit further south is the so called ‘Muscle Beach’, where bodybuilders competitions have been held. With concrete spectator seating, the Recreation Center there is a popular gathering place to play basketball, beach volleyball and workouts at the outdoor gym (under renovation). To the north of the steel sculpture is the Venice Beach Skate Park, a park in itself where my visitors go to join the spectator crowd, as they gather ‘round for a look! There are some drawbacks when crowded. As it is with Santa Monica at the beach, the gridlock potential is real, especially when LA’s hot, with so many locals traveling west bringing family, coming over for that cool ocean breeze! Sometimes it seems as though half of LA is going to the beaches! The typical swell of weekend beachgoers isn’t so much on weekdays, although the late afternoon traffic usually slows to a crawl in all directions, from the infamous I-405, thru most all southbound routes thru the westside, all of the way to the coastal routes. So if I’m with visitors leaving at 4:30 pm, I’ll give them the option to find a Google Maps way out, or wait it out at a restaurant, while dining out (or in now!). Using the public restrooms here when crowded can be challenging, often having to wait in lines. Then the odds of opening the next available door to see a clean toilet are ‘hit and miss’. And with all due respect, the City of LA try’s to keep everything maintained, although the sheer volume of people at busy times may overwhelm the system, not to mention the misuse of careless users. Parking is simple and as easy as going around the block to find open street side spaces along streets east of Pacific Ave. Paid Venice Beach Parking along Speedway may be a quick and hassle free way to ditch the vehicle and head for the ‘walk. Plus they have a small restroom, available only to users of their ‘lot. The nearby residential area is very protective of their parking, usually posting parking restrictions. I’d check the signs before leaving a vehicle for any...

However, as with many popular tourist destinations, Venice Beach can get quite crowded, especially on weekends and during the summer months. Additionally, while the boardwalk is filled with interesting sights, it can also attract some less desirable elements, which may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
Parking can also be tricky, as spaces fill up quickly, and the options can be expensive. It’s advisable to arrive early or consider alternative transportation methods, such as biking or ridesharing, to make your visit smoother.
