This theater in the Tennessee Performibg Arts Center is a very good venue. Great acoustics, great lighting. ...The reason I didn't rate it higher is its lack of accessible seating for people with mobility problems. The "accessible" seats are just folding metal chairs on a level surface behind the farthest back row of the more comfortable theater-style seats. This theater is grandfathered in under the ADA since it was already built when that law was enacted and hasn't undergone any work since then that would require it to come into compliance, so this is just a warning for those who need accessible seating in this theater. The staff tries to help but all they have to work with is the folding chairs. ...Be aware that this venue is at the back of TPAC so it's a bit of a walk. There is a ramp all the way from the entrance and some seating about halfway there near a concession stand. ...There is no seating in the main lobby which is a problem for people who have trouble standing, or who need to use will-call. ...NB: The largest venue in TPAC, the Andrew Jackson Hall, DOES have compliant seating. It's still the last row but the seats are the same comfortable style as in the rest of that venue and there's enough room in front of that row for people using wheelchairs or walkers to maneuver easily. The poor "accessible" seating is only in the...
Read moreThe theater is ok - it's not terrible. In fact, the staff & valet service employees were very friendly - which kept me from giving a 2-star review. My low star rating is due to the facilities. There is not enough seating in the lobby area so if you arrive early for VIP or to have a drink - you'll be standing. Inside the theater, the seats are small. The two shows I've seen there were excellent but it was due to the event rather than the venue. If you have mobility issues will be difficult. Several multi-level landing type steps from the street entrance. No handicap seating in the VIP section that I noticed - it looked like a space for wheelchairs at the top was available. The main (large, multiple stall) restroom is downstairs while a one room combination male/female/family handicap restroom on the main floor & there was a long line. The theater holds several people, therefore there are really long lines during intermission. There were more places to get alcohol than there were facilities - seems...
Read moreFor the finale, it was Travis Bradley’s ‘If I Can Dream’ set to the music of Elvis Presley. From starting with ‘That’s All Right’ to a stripped-down version of ‘Suspicious Minds’ to the finale, ‘If I Can Dream,’ you could feel the presence of The King throughout the choreography. Led by the brilliant work of Garritt McCabe, who dazzled on the stage as ‘The Icon,’ whimsically led the audience through the performance. Bradley’s work here impressed me with putting the pieces together set to various tones of Presley. From start to finish, you were immersed the entire time.
