As a long-time musician and avid music fan who loves learning as many details as possible, including the history of studio musicians as the unsung heroes, I was severely underwhelmed.
The price is not worth it, and I didn’t even pay for it. $25 for around an hour of wandering around a horrible layout - felt like a maze with no clear direction, after seeing everything I was scrambling around hoping that there CERTAINLY had to be more for it to offer, but no - I had seen literally every inch of it by that point.
Don’t get me wrong, they have some AMAZING artifacts of music history. But, regardless of any controversy the Rock and Roll HOF in Cleveland may have, for $10 more you get hours and hours and hours of enjoyment - many of the sections also singing the praises and sharing the history of studio musicians as well.
I think if you’re in the area struggling to find something to do (I had a horrible time in Nashville overall and realized this city is NOT for me, the underwhelming and overpriced nature touched literally everything we did, including the food!), it’s one of the few things I think is a good way to spend your time - the real question is if your willing to spend $25 per person for an hour of getting confused by the layout.
Honestly, the layout is the only real reason I took as long as I did. Probably would have been reduced by half if the building made any...
Read moreUnless you're intimately familiar with music from the 60s and the studio musicians who performed it, you won't get anything from this museum. It's a disorganized mess of artifacts that doesn't attempt to tell any story or in any way connect these musicians with each other or their music you may know. Only some of their credits are listed and there is no opportunity to actually listen to any of that music. As someone who was born in the 80s, I didn't know what 95 percent of the songs were (by name at least). The interactive Grammy portion might be fun for kids, but for adults it is literally a "fill in the blanks" mad libs exercise. That some of the exhibits were broken and that they were out of museum maps didn't help.
For the exorbitant price, I expected a much larger, professionally designed museum, not the basement of an events center with (admittedly cool) old instruments with long paragraphs of text on them. They could also make more of an effort to include other genres besides country, rock, and motown; or perhaps some more women and minorities.
This completely fails at being a museum. I love museums, even weird and boring ones, but this place needs a price cut and a complete revamp to make it more than a cabinet of curiosities.
(Also, please pick up some of the trash on the ground...
Read moreWOW! What a fantastic place to visit! Firstly let me mention the staff. Every one of the staff that we came into contact with were super friendly and helpful... nothing was too much bother and they were happy to answer any questions we had. We absolutely made the right decision to visit this museum and we spent 5 hours here. We used the personal audio tour with headphones and these were useful and gave extra to the experience for only a few dollars more. The information, the displays, the way it's laid out is excellent and didn't ever feel overcrowded at any point and nothing was difficult to see. The Jimi Hendrix exhibit was great too and so easy to miss if you're not looking properly. It's not just the entrance and screens .... Be patient and a door will open leading you into the exhibit, oh and don't miss the opportunity for a photo with the provided camera.😉 There's a screen where you could sit and watch 'The Grammy's' and all the interactive areas which were so much fun and interesting too. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, it was worth every penny and I would highly recommend this museum- it is a wonderful experience! So many photos taken but have only attached a few so it doesn't show or spoil the experience...
