Review of Excalibur Hotel and Casino – A Dismal Experience for Families

I recently had the misfortune of spending my first family trip to Las Vegas at Excalibur Hotel and Casino, and I must say, it was a complete nightmare. If you’re considering a child-friendly hotel, I urge you to STIR CLEAR! The experience was not only disappointing but also concerning for our child’s health. As a veteran visiting during Veterans Weekend, this treatment is absolutely unacceptable.

Arrival and Check-In: A Poor Start From the moment we arrived, the difficulties began. The parking situation was a hassle, compounded by unclear signage that made navigating the lot frustrating. When we finally made it to the front desk, the experience didn’t improve. The staff member who checked us in was unwelcoming and somewhat rude. It felt like she was more annoyed to be there than willing to assist guests. This lack of courtesy set a negative tone for our stay.

Room Conditions: A Health Hazard When we entered our room, which was supposedly “updated,” we quickly realized that the term was used loosely. While there were new pieces of furniture, the overall state of the room was appalling. It was dirty, with hair left behind and even a pair of used gloves on the bathroom countertop. This lack of cleanliness is unacceptable and raises serious health concerns.

To make matters worse, our child began to experience respiratory issues almost immediately. The air conditioning unit was malfunctioning, causing us to turn it on and off repeatedly. Despite notifying the front desk, the response was lackluster. They offered a night’s discount, but there was no genuine apology or concern for our child’s worsening condition.

Dining Experience: A Stomach Bug and Deceptive Practices We also had a particularly troubling experience after dining at the hotel buffet. Shortly after our meal, our child became ill with a stomach bug, which we suspect was related to the food served there. It was incredibly disheartening, especially given the already poor health conditions we were facing in our room.

Additionally, there seems to be a hidden agenda with the hotel’s timeshare presentations. They entice guests with offers of cash or show tickets, but the reality is a two-hour pitch for a timeshare that feels more like a trick than a treat. It’s disappointing to see such tactics employed, especially during a family vacation.

Service Response: Indifferent and Ineffective After multiple complaints regarding the state of our room and the AC, someone finally came to address the issue. They acknowledged that the unit had no filters, which explained the dust and debris circulating through the air. While they replaced the AC, they neglected to clean the area where it was installed, leaving behind dirt and trash. This oversight demonstrated a lack of professionalism and attention to detail.

Throughout our stay, the staff’s demeanor was robotic and unfriendly. It was disheartening to encounter so many employees who seemed disengaged and uninterested in providing even basic hospitality. As a veteran, I expected a certain level of respect and service, especially during a weekend dedicated to honoring those who served.

Overall Impression: An Unacceptable Experience The entire hotel reeked of smoke and neglect—from the casino to the hallways to our room. I can’t stress enough how unacceptable this is, especially for families with children. I would rate this hotel two stars only because it provides a place to sleep, but even that feels generous given the circumstances. It’s not a place I would recommend; in fact, I implore families to seek accommodations elsewhere.

If you value your family’s health and well-being, do not stay at Excalibur Hotel and Casino. This experience has left a profoundly negative impression, and I genuinely hope that management takes serious steps to rectify these issues. For the sake of your children and in honor of Veterans Weekend, find a hotel that prioritizes cleanliness and...

My family and I took a vacation to Las Vegas last week, so my experience at this hotel is still pretty fresh in my head. I've been to Vegas at least 5 or 6 times, so I've visited Excalibur a lot, but this is the first time I've actually stayed at Excalibur. I chose Excalibur because they had great rates. I couldn't beat those prices. It saved me money to stay here, which allowed me to do other things with the money I saved. My experience staying here was overall really solid. There is so much to offer inside this hotel, like most hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. I loved the food options they had on the second floor at the food court, especially Krispy Kreme Donuts and Fatburger. One of my other favorite things offered inside the hotel is the arcade in the basement. It's so big with so many games. My kids loved it. Speaking of my kids, they also loved the pool. There are two pools, and they both are pretty spacious. Another favorite was their ice cream shop, which is located by one of the exits. A personal favorite of mine was the gym. Amazing equipment for a hotel gym. I was really impressed with the gym. It's one of the best hotel gyms I've ever been to. The casino area is typical. I mean, once you have seen one casino, you have seen them all in Vegas, really. Like most casinos, the casino area is really smelly with that cigarette smell, so beware if that isn't your thing. There are numerous bars and areas to get adult beverages if that is your thing. I really had no issues with any employees. I honestly didn't need their assistance. I chose to check in and check out of the hotel via the mobile way, and it was very convenient. My issues with service are in relation to the housekeeping department. I'm not saying all the housekeepers at this hotel are bad but the ones who cleaned my room when we were there didn't do a good job. We had to call a few times to have them touch up our room. So I'd say consistency in the housekeeping department is needed. I will say again booking a room here was relatively cheapish so I can't complain too much but I will say the rooms in this hotel need renovating. You can definitely see the wear and tear in the rooms. The carpets are especially dingey, and the beds are really worn. I got two rooms and both TVs didn't work the greatest. Both TV screens were extremely fuzzy. My telephone in one room didn't work. So I'd say a room renovation project is needed at this hotel. Alright, well, enough of that subject, I will also say locational wise this hotel is in a great spot on the Las Vegas Strip. It's in walking distance to many other hotels, shops, restaurants and other notable attractions. There's a walking bridge as well that goes directly to the New York New York hotel and casino. Also attached to the hotel is a free tram, which takes you to the Luxor and Mandalay Bay hotels. Would I stay here again ? I would to save money again. It's not my first or second preference, but it did save me money. If I do stay here again, I will for sure book a ticket to the Tournament of Kings dinner and show. It looks so fun. It's not the best hotel on the Strip, but it isn't the worst. I hope this review helped, and I also wanted to help by including many pictures with...

SECURITY IS SERIOUSLY LACKING! Wow, there is something deeply fishy at this casino. Excalibur has alarmingly bad, sketchy security. I lost something valuable at the Tournament Show. when I realized it the next day and went to security, it was confirmed in their system that they had my item, and it was in their safe. Problem was, there is supposedly only ONE PERSON in the WHOLE CASINO who knows the code to get into the safe, and she had just clocked out (at 3:30PM on a Saturday) and would not stay to open the safe as it was "too far" and she was off. I explained that I was leaving and due at the airport in 45 minutes. She asked my name again, and then said, "You weren't a guest here." I said that our reservations were under my husband's name, and I gave that to her, and she asked me why I didn't have the same last name as him! LOL! Is that a requirement in Vegas? I asked what they would do if something very valuable was found before she clocked back in the next day, and I was told they would just "hold on to it" at the security desk. After she left, I asked to talk to the manager of security, as I wanted to make sure they had contact information for me, as I was going to have to leave. A man came, and again said that no one could get into the safe, but that they would mail my item to me. I asked if it would be mailed insured, in case something happened to it. He said yes. I asked when it would be mailed, and he said, "Tomorrow. Sunday." I was like, Sunday? Really? (Who mails on Sundays??) He nodded and then turned to leave, and I pointed out that he had none of my information? No address or contact info? I wrote it down for him...on a scrap piece of paper handed to me by a security guard. I then asked for the manager's name, which he told me, but which he had trouble spelling, which was not suspicious at all...

Fast forward to today...I call and after being on hold for 20 minutes at security, was told that the person I needed to talk to wouldn't be available until 5AM and to call then. I laughed and said no, I was not waking up to call them back at 5AM, I needed to talk to someone who could help me, and I gave the name I had been given. Guess what? They know of no manager with the name I was given. LOLOLOL. They then told me to try calling at 11PM. I said no, and then I was transferred to Lost and Found. Where the safe actually is. You'll be shocked to hear, I'm sure, that the item had not been mailed yet, and Lost and Found had none of my contact information, and...the person that does the mailing clocked out for the day and would not be back until 7:30AM tomorrow. I explained how my item was in the safe, and that no one could supposedly get in to the safe except this other person. I explained what the item was, and I was put on hold for 30 seconds after which I was told that the item was still there. Obviously...complete frikkin chaos, and SUPER SKETCHY. I mean, I know Excalibur is not high end, but C'MON! Really creepy, and clearly there's gotta be some big scams being run with people's stuff that gets lost or left behind. This is the type of place that likely has creepy hidden cameras in people's rooms...know what I mean?...
