I just happened to come across this memorial. Never knew it was here and with my affiliation with a volunteer fire department it was nice to see. Although the monument appears to have been built (dedicated I suppose), in 1912, the monument is in beautiful shape and seems well cared for. Although it does not specifically mention it on the monument, I suspect they built this monument as a tribute, in part, to the firefighters who were tasked with fighting the Triangle Shirtwaist fire of 1911 (a year earlier) .... although I believe the site of that fire has its own plaque honoring the victims of that fire at the location of that fire.
