A miss for a Marriot properties.
Came into town for my wife and my wedding anniversary. We wanted to stay closer to home and still get away for the weekend.
The room itself was fine, clean, and presentable. Minor wear as expected with hotels.
STAFF - The staff is greatly over worked. The woman running the counter was there when we checked in and 20 hours later, still working. She told us she was able to go home briefly and had to come back in. She was courteous, very much so. However, she was rarely available when needed as she was having to run around and help with the hotel functions. It resulted in a lengthy wait at the desk while she had to chase hotel duties, more than once. Give this poor girl a raise!
BAR - The wife and I decided to go have a drink the night we arrive... nope. Bartender called in sick...on a weekend. ZERO backup. We ended up walking down the street for drinks but why have a bar if it cannot be staffed?
BREAKFAST - Poor quality and slim on choices. Granted this is included as part of the stay but quality is greatly lacking for the nightly price. Warm offerings mostly include powdered "scrambled" eggs and a bacon like substitute. No bagles, no toast, and the standard cold cereals. They ran out of coffee in which our friend front counter had to go chase down more. She then returned with a pot full of floating grounds. The woman assigned to the breakfast bar later made her appearance and then floated back out just as quickly, after wiping a few things.
PARKING - Parking here will run you a cool $23/ night. Yes.. parking at your hotel. Your other option, park on the street and hope for the best. There is no self parking, this is by attendant only. Make sure and factor this into the cost of your stay. And NOTE: They give you a ticket with a phone number to call when you need your car. We called this number before heading down to check out, watched about 4 go 5 cars leave ahead of is, and I finally walked out to request the car. The attendant looked on his tablet and pointed out that, "this stupid thing never works". Do not call the number. Just go down and see them if you need your car. Attendants are nice... system is a racket to get you for another $23/ night.
I understand Covid has unleashed issues for finding quality workers but this needs addressed at a price point of well over $140/ night plus $23 in parking. As is, accommodations certainly do not justify the price.
Would not recommend unless you can find...
Read moreWe arrived around 8:15pm to an almost empty parking lot, grab our things, and walk in to check in. Upon walking in, we were greeted by a front desk girl who just seemed to really hate her job, or was just really judge mental towards us. Granted, we had just driven 4 hours and were wearing athletic shorts and t-shirts but still.
Either way, she immediately demands to know if we parked in the parking lot ourselves. I said yes, and she informed me that was for valet only and we needed to pay $23 or find parking elsewhere. However, there was zero indication that the parking lot was valet only, other than a tiny sign at the back of the parking lot that we only saw once we went to move our car. Also, there was no valet person in sight. At all. He actually didn’t even show up until we were finishing up the check in process. I told her we would just move because I was unaware it was valet only upon booking the hotel. I’ve never stayed at a Springhill Suites that required valet, so seemed a little odd to me, but it is what it is.
The best part about this whole “valet only parking” is that the whole time we stayed there, the drive was constantly filled with cars and people who were trying to have their car parked by valet. The valet was literally always missing and no where to be found. How can you justify charging people $23 a night for valet when they can’t even do their job?
After that, I gave her my ID and debit card to get us checked in. After a minute or two of looking, with an attitude, she tells me she can’t find a reservation under my name. I apologize and tell her the reservation is probably under my maiden name because that’s what my Bonvoy account is under. She hesitated like she didn’t know how to proceed, so I told her my maiden name and she gave me a blank stare. I then offered up my old ID, which she still seemed unsure about. This isn’t my first time booking a Marriott hotel with points under my married name and I have never once been treated this way when checking in.
We finally make it up to our room, which seemed nice on first impressions but we could tell it had some issues the longer we were in the room. The door handle to the bathroom was broken, the hot water in the shower took a good 3 minutes to become hot, and the AC unit was placed on wooden blocks.
This hotel also claims to have a fitness center, which is literally 3-4 pieces of cardio equipment and a handful of dumbbells.
The rude staff really...
Read moreHonestly if I could give this hotel 0 stars I would. As a Marriott Bonvoy member I was hoping this would be a good place to celebrate my birthday due to its location. Everything from check in was HORRIFIC. The girl at the front acted like she was heavily medicated and did not give us any information regarding anything. I asked if I had to valet or if I could park my own car since it was only a few steps away. I was told it was mandatory to valet and that it was $20. I later was told I had the choice and that I was lying about this encounter. After having to ask where the elevators were and what time check out would be the following day we headed to our room. As a Marriott I did not expect this to be so run down. The wallpaper was falling off, the cabinets were chipped, the door to the refrigerator was falling off, and there was only one tiny mirror in the room. With it being my birthday we let it go since we wouldn't be in the room much. We went to the bar across the street and came back around 2:00am. I asked if I could get my car and was told very rudely that I could not because valet was not available after 11pm. I asked for a manager to get my keys so that I could retrieve my car on my own and was told "you're looking at her" by a young lady wearing pajama pants. After returning to the hotel I had to park my car in the very back of the hotel on the grass with no lights around. I came back to the desk and asked why I was being charged valet if it was not available and why I was not told this ahead of time. I was then told it was not mandatory and that I should know that. At this time I asked for the number to Marriott corporate and the girl told me "they wont do anything. It is our decision at the property." I finally got one of the staff members to write it down and she scribbled it on a sticky saying "cooperate." After calling the number and speaking with someone who did not understand any English we decided to leave the room. We 'checked out' at 4am and the staff did not say a word only rolled their eyes. I once again called corporate on Monday to make a complaint and was told there was nothing that could be done even though I did not stay in the room. Honestly I recommend staying at a Hilton where they care about their members. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone and hot Marriott finds out the people they hire at...
