I took a custom-made locket to be engraved in Asian characters (honoring my mom). Ali was very up front about the process, explaining that as he uses a laser engraver that aims straight down, and the locket does not fully open, he would be engraving at an angle and the result would be off-center and with a slightly different width from beginning to end. He also assured me the width difference would be barely discernible to the eye.
With that in mind, and because he took the trouble to let me know beforehand what to expect and what not to expect, I knew I could trust him with my locket. I had brought a screenshot of the letters, and he kindly waited while I turned it into a file he could program the engraver with. He and his assistant were very patient with me, and from what I saw of how they treated other customers who came and went while I battled my phone, eminently professional and courteous is how they always are.
I was a little worried that given the characters being used (two 'letters' formed from 22-23 seperate strokes) the engraving cost might be beyond me, but the service was surprisingly affordable.
And fast!
I think it took about a minute for him to get the right letters, size them down to fit the tiny interior space of the locket, and then perfectly engrave them to the tiniest of the tiniest stroke. Then he brought it over and asked if it was okay. I got the impression that if it was not, he would do everything he could to make it better (I'm not sure how easy it is to repair an engraving once it's in, but I knew he would try, and that is reassuring.)
He asked how I had heard of the business. I had been by before to ask about repairing a necklace, and another time about getting a different stone for a ring. I wasn't able to afford the work those previous times, but I always remembered how everyone I spoke to had been very courteous and professional. The way they treated me then was sort of a pre-incentive to my bringing my locket to him now. Also because I checked reviews. This locket is VERY important to me and I'm not handing it over to just anyone!
I really appreciated the thoughtful, considerate treatment and the excellent, speedy work, and the remarkable value for the cost.
Thank you, Ali.
P.S. I overheard while there - currently, they have the only ring re-sizing system that will not leave a seam. For anyone out...
Read moreI found this place by accident and I am so glad that I did. I was greeted by Jared and had my 6-carat cushion cut stone mounted on my wedding band by Ali, both jewelers are so friendly and so skilled.
Ali worked on my ring on a timely manner, the expected wait-time to have my stone mounted and the ring rhodium plated was 2 hours and he finished in about an hour and a half. I was able to view Ali's work on a microscopic camera to get a precise view of his finished work and WOW did he do a fantastic job all around on the stone and ring. All of the dings and scratches caused by my DIY experiments were completely gone! The before and after were truly remarkable in comparison, he really knows what he was doing.
I have only been to Mike's Custom Jewelry before this place and I plan to go back to Jewelry Doctor again for any future repairs.
The place is right across from Morgan Jewelers, inside University Parkway Mall. For someone who hasn't been to the mall in a long time, it was too easy to get lost, I spent forever walking all around the mall trying to remember where the place was when it came time to pick up my ring.
I'm so glad I stumbled upon this gem. Love LOVE Ali and Jared for making my day. Now I'll get to wear my ring to my company Christmas party—Thanks to the both of...
Read moreAli is THE guy to go to for any of your jewelry needs. My then fiancé ordered a custom ring off of Etsy, but when it came, it was just a little too small. It came the week of the wedding, so there wasn't any time to get a new one, plus, with how t was custom, there wasn't much of an option with that anyway. We decided to get the ring resized, and her grandma suggested Ali. Now, you must know that my ring is made of titanium and carbon fiber, so not an easy fix by any means. We finally had time THE DAY BEFORE THE WEDDING to get it resized. We took it in, and Ali was super friendly and helpful. Yes, we did have to pay a $20 day-of rush fee, but that's our fault for having the time crunch. He got it done, and was able to enlarge the ring but cutting some of the titanium away. Who knew you could cut into titanium? When we picked it up though, I accidentally pulled on what looked like some fibers, and I started to unravel the carbon fiber... He took care of that as well quickly, and I had my ring all ready to go for our wedding day. He is the best and is certainly the place to go especially if you don't know how your jewelry is going to be fixed. If he doesn't know, he'll research it out and find a way to fix it. Is give him 6...
