never really shopped for comedy and decided to check this place out, man, I really truly found most of the comics on Open Mic to be very very funny! I'm surprised that sooo many seats are left open and the seats that are filled consist mostly of comics awaiting there spot on stage. That's not a bad thing at all, I was happy to see them applauding at the funny stuff and not just throwing up arbitrary laughter where it isn't deserved. I was greeted at the door by a friendly staff member, who as it turned out, also had a funny routine on stage. ONLY $6.00 for 2 hour's of really funny material and delivery of it, plus, ONLY $4.00 for a cold a$$ Corona. I came, I laughed, I am surprised that more people aren't taking advantage of a chance at hearing some local talent. I especially enjoyed the young kid that had the sack to do a Hitler impersonation with a punch line that had me pushing the chair out from in front of me and laugh hysterically, even though I saw the African Americans around me were "not" laughing, in fact, that may have made me laugh harder. I got more than I paid for, I'm sure of it... There were obviously some that had some difficult moments, but hell, it turned out to be their first night on "any" stage and they weren't that bad either. I give them all HATS OFF and I will return for more laughing, definitely. I understand they have other genre that folks might take away more laughs from, like Improvisation, ...etc. The only bad part of the night was only having the tolerance to drink 1 beer, but I should have had my wife along and turned her into a designated driver. Give this...
Read moreWhile L.A. has the Groundlings, Chicago has Second City and New York has SNL, Sacramento knows how to bring the fire. NorCal’s comedy scene is rising—and the Comedy Spot is not just keeping up, we’re setting the pace.
It’s been an absolute honor to perform, grow, and connect at this venue. From diving into musical improv as a singer to writing and performing sketch and character work, every experience here has pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of. I’ve laughed harder than ever with the students and teachers, and I’ve grown in my ability to be present, take risks, and truly trust myself and others on stage.
Sharing the stage and creative process with some of the most talented minds, personalities, and actors I’ve ever met has been an unforgettable gift. This isn’t just a comedy space—it’s a home for growth and real artistry.
Thank you, Comedy Spot - thank you for the laughs, the shows, cool venue and stage to build a foundation of confidence and...
Read moreA friend of ours performs at this place, so we’ve been meaning to check it out for a while. We finally went last night, and we laughed the whole time! There were two teams competing. One did movie scenes and the other told personal stories. Everything was so funny, and we can’t stop quoting our favorite lines to each other!
Honestly, we weren’t sure what to expect, but it turned out to be the perfect date night. It was just so much fun! We even ran into another friend performing, which was a nice surprise.
Everyone in the show was hilarious! We were still cracking up on the walk home about the dinosaur bit, the one about saving all the men, and the 40 year old lady scene. We might be saying “What were the 1900s like?” and “Hold your breath at the cemetery or a ghost will __” to each other forever! We’ll definitely be back!
We now know they have snacks and drinks at the bar too. We weren’t sure what the set up was so we...
