This used to be a place to get a great breakfast at a good price. Since they changed the format, the food quality has dropped, and prices are higher.
I used to get a simple meal consisting of oatmeal, and plain eggs for about $3.85. It now costs $4.62, but the worst part is that because you now order first with the cashier, and are unable to interact with the chef, if your food comes out unsatisfactory (burnt eggs - twice in a row now), it's an inconvenience to get it fixed. Previously, you would order directly with the chef, and stand close enough to watch them prepare your food. Under your watchful eye they seemed to take better care. They could also up-sell you such as by asking if you would like salsa with your eggs, or if you would like to add berries and whipped cream, and take requests like "could you lightly butter the toast?". The old format was fantastic, and it's a shame that they changed it.
As for the breakfast menu options, they are outstanding. Some of my favorites are the loaded potatoes, creme brulé french toast, and french style omelettes. The french toast is a real treat, but will make those of you who are conscious of your diet feel guilty after trying it.
I rarely eat here for lunch or dinner, but to comment - the one time I tried the chicken salad it had lettuce that was on the turn, and seemed very dry. The sandwiches, on the other hand, are great. The meat is unprocessed, and is usually done perfectly. They keep it under a hot light, and cut it just before placing it on your sandwich. Just take care with the cashier to put in any special requests, and ensure that any concerns are addressed up front because you will be hard pressed to interact with the chefs later.
For those wanting coffee with their breakfast, you should stop at the Starbucks down the street before hand as they do not serve...
Read moreMy wife and I traveled to SLC for a convention and really not having the best culinary experience for the most part and pretty much stopped into the Nauvoo Cafe on a whim. Just a little cafe offering some sandwiches, salads, dogs and some enormous pot pies.
"Well, lets check out one of these pot pies", my wife says to me! I'm cool with this decision and she also went for a salad while I went for a chicken salad sandwich. Looked around at what I wanted for a beverage and for the first time in my 37 years on this planet God has provide us, Fresca was an option! FRESCA! I. Love. FRESCA!
Our food came out and the pot pie was indeed enormous and a meal that we could have shared. As we picked away at the pot pie, we nibbled away out our own meals. My wife enjoyed her salad while I definitely enjoyed my chicken salad wrap in a spinach wrap with provolone cheese and lettuce.
Our visit to Nauvoo was enjoyable and like the food trucks in the town, providing a better culinary experience than the restaurants we had visited during our stay up to this point - Red Rock Brewing, Squatters and 501 on Main in Park City. Definitely worth a visit if you're planning a trip to the SLC...
Read moreBright environment with plenty of natural light make it a cheerful spot...but the staff were not that engaging. Manager seemed to be distracted about something when I saw him. I understand Food and Beverage, so I get it. But, the restaurant was practically empty except for one other table dining..and there was no line. Every single table in the section of the dining room where I went needed a wipedown. There were a couple behind the counter that one of them could have come out and done a super quick job of it. However...with that said. When you go...and you should...get the Turkey Pot Pie. Just hush and ignore the rest of the menu....and they even make it easy for you to see because it's a highlighted specialty. ...and for good reason. Dern....it is good! I am SO glad I was there by myself and did not...
