Ski 'N See Salt Lake City — Attraction in Salt Lake City

The manager here is the embodied antithesis of customer service. We went in to try on ski clothes to rent for a one-day trip up to Powder Mountain; we've just moved to SLC and aren't sure if we're going to be skiiers/snowboarders enough to justify the investment, so renting seemed like the best option.

When we were trying things on, the manager declared to us that their reservation system DOES NOT RESERVE THE CLOTHING. It's not that he can't guarantee a specific color or brand - he can't guarantee that they will have pants or a jacket in your size AT ALL. What is the point of the reservation system, then? It's to get a discount on the money you give them...to maybe, or maybe not, have your stuff.

He also proudly declared that he's about to enter his busiest two weeks of the year, so the likelihood of them having what we needed was even lower. Congratulations, sir, it's clear that you're making so much money - hand over fist! - that our purchase doesn't matter at all.

I guess the good news is he told us about his unapologetic and customer-unfriendly business practices so we could spend our money elsewhere. And we did! I recommend looking at other local vendors - the one we ended up going with, when I asked about their reservation system, laughed and said they haven't run out of clothes in 30 years!

The Ski 'N See manager also told another person who was inquiring about pickup and drop-off times that each "day" was paid independently (not on a 24 hour schedule; if you pick up Monday at the end of the day and drop it off Tuesday at noon, you pay 2 days). Great people, no doubt about that. When it comes to equipment and quality? Different story. The 1-star review is a result of that, and is not a reflection of the employees or their service.

I’m an Advanced skiier without my gear here in UT so I went here to rent. Skis were great, boots were a joke.

The highest flex they have in a ski boot under US shoe size 11.5 is a 75 (for context, that flex level is suitable for individuals weighing less than 90 lbs. at a novice ski level). There are no other options.

Attempting to control a beautiful pair of Bent Chetlers through a pow day with those boots proved not only impossible, but dangerous as all sense of control was lost. Any experienced skiier would tell you the same thing after hearing that - “wow.. good luck..”.

After isolating all the issues I was experiencing were because of the boots, to enjoy my day at all I had to rent another pair of boots from the resort. Very disappointing. To rub more salt in the wound, the entire rental package (in this case Snowbird Mountain) would’ve been cheaper in general.

Nice people, willing to help, but if you’re anything but a novice, STAY AWAY FROM...

The staff gives renters incompatible equipment. I'm an intermediate-advanced skier and was given a too-wide for me, very soft boot (flex 90, it's all they have; basically a boot for beginners). The skis they gave me though were aggressive almost-straight performance skis. They also keep the tails as sharp as the middle edge, rather than detuning the tails. For icy NE conditions and with a much stiffer boot, this might be what you want. For Utah skiing, this combination is unmanageable - the skis would catch edges constantly, impossible to control, very perilous for me, let alone a beginner. My partner had the exact same issues. I recommend renting elsewhere, especially if you don't know how to evaluate in detail the equipment they give you, because they certainly don't.

Reviewing this place because the only other review that describes exactly what happened to me and my partner when we rented here is from 5 years ago. However I think this happens frequently and skiers of all levels may not be realizing why they struggle so much with equipment...
