If I could leave no stars I would. My experience with EOS has been absolutely horrible. If you have any intention of not using this gym for the rest of your life, I would strongly recommend you not sign any contract with this company. This is what happened to me:
Knowing I would only be in San Diego for 6 months before my move, I told the people who were signing me up this ahead a time to be sure I was aware of all cancellation fees. They told me, after much probing on my part, of the fees for cancelling both the personal trainer contract and the general membership.
I felt pressured to signing up on the spot, perhaps a sign of personal weakness. Nevertheless, I signed up for the 24.95 a month membership and the personal trainer program. I was happy with the facilities and my personal trainer, though I do not support the way the trainers are treated by this abominable company. When it came time to cancel, my experience was (and still is) a nightmare.
I called three times a day for nearly a week trying to get in touch with Justin, who I am overjoyed to hear no longer works at EOS and I pray never works anywhere again that involves customer service as his arrogant attitude and dismissal of all issues not related to his personal standing is completely unforgivable. I got no call backs, no emails, no confirmations, and needless to say no cancellation of my accounts.
I finally found a wonderful human being that works at this cesspool to give me the number of their financial services company to cancel the membership on my own. Though Justin had originally guaranteed he would be able to waive the 50$ cancellation fee for the personal trainer (though when he refused to send me that guarantee over email I realized he was lying), I thought it best to go through the financial services anyways and just pay that fee so as not to deal with that self-righteous individual.
The first time I called I was told the membership was cancelled, it wasn't. I called back again the next day saying I never received a confirmation email and they informed me it hadn't been cancelled so they cancelled it and gave me a confirmation number and that was the end.
Or so I thought.
Three weeks later I've received another membership charge! I've been on the phone for the last hour talking to the people at the gym and the financial services trying to get the charge refunded. Turns out they got a new financial services company that started April 1st (two days after the other company cancelled my membership!), so they have no record of my last two phone calls with the other company. More likely than not, I'll also be charged for the personal trainer.
Sorry to the employees at the front desk who have been helping me, I wish you only the best. You've always been pleasant to interact with.
For those who read this entire post, perhaps you won't have this kind of experience--I hope not. And for those who have no plan on leaving the gym in the foreseeable future, it's an okay place. The movie theater room is often too loud and hurts the ears, much of the equipment is outdated (plugs on machines designed for the original ipods, TVs hardly ever work), but it's not a terrible gym if its convenient for you. I'd argue there are better gyms nearby, though.

Three days later and the new administration promised they had taken care of everything, not only has the payment not be refunded but rather moved from pending to charged on my cc, but I get two emails saying I have been scheduled for two PT meetings. This is...
Read moreI joined this gym in Summer of 2020 and thought they had A LOT of really great equipment, several of each type of machine, multiple different brands, etc. It was very easy to get a full workout in and the equipment, though somewhat old, was in pretty good shape. I never used the personal training, classes, pool, etc. so I have no feedback on that, but the staff was generally pretty friendly. Parking has always been a bit problematic during peak hours, and the surrounding area can get really busy if there are events at the nearby arena, but this is obviously outside EoS control. Mid-2022 I started to notice some things going downhill regarding upkeep, particularly in the locker rooms, restrooms, paper towels + sanitizer throughout the gym being empty, and so on, but management on a few occassions responded to complaints and it seems like that has significantly improved, so kudos for that. My larger issue is that towards the end of 2022 and start of 2023 they did a significant overhaul of their weight lifting area and interior gym. They added a bunch of squat racks, deadlift platforms, benches, and so on, which is fantastic. The interior got new sets of dumbells and new benches, also great. The not so great is that a bunch of the equipment variety and selection disappeared, a lot of the machines they had were cleared out and are no longer in the gym. The indoor lighting also seems kind of dim now too, it would be nice if it was a little bit brighter. Furthermore, most of the plate-loaded equipment is now outdoors, save for some benches and 1 T-bar row indoors, but the rest of the Hammer Strength equipment, leg presses, etc. are outside, which fortunately the weather is generally pretty good in San Diego, but this does restrict options for the few months a year where weather is less good (rain, cold, etc.). The bad is that the new machines indoors, including the large cable towers, have had a significant amount of down time, and some just don't "feel" right. Several of the cables in the large multi-section tower have a weird "stutter" to the pulleys sometimes, and this is pretty unenjoyable and I think could be hazardous for some exercises. Some of the pulleys don't seem to spin well and I think catch on the cable. Plus several of the new Nautilus brand weight machines have been breaking, despite not being particularly old. Some of them, like the standing calf press, felt "off" or bad from the very start (this one quickly broke and was later repaired), as if perhaps they were set up incorrectly or defective from the manufacturer? A few of them have issues where the pins to adjust pad position have lost or broken their spring so the pin doesn't reliably stay in the slot during motion. I've used Nautilus equipment at several other gyms and not had these issues, so I think it's something about how these were installed. I've noticed that after repair, the equipment works better than it used to, but kind of frustrating that it has to formally break before it can actually work like it should have when it was new. Given the reliability issues + the duration of down time for some new equipment, I think it's fair to say that this isn't what I had hoped for after a very expensive refresh. So, 3 stars because it kind of averages a bunch of really great features (outdoor area, quantitiy of equipment, overall gym size) and some really negative features (equipment quality and layout) into an overall...
Read moreWent in and purchased (2) one week passes ($35/ea) to try gym out before committing to contract. Person at front accidentally charged me for an additional day pass @$20. Said I’d need to return when a manager was present for refund. Gym is huge, has lots of equipment, never had to wait to use anything. And they have a great selection. Air flow is nice and much appreciated, and staff is friendly and helpful, although anything outside of taking membership dues requires a manager. Paper towels often out however, and not much done in the way of cleaning. Men’s locker room smells like a ripe bowel movement. Four days into my second week pass, I went in on a busy Mon morning. Large group of people talking with staff at front, headphones on, I went straight to work out as a few others who entered same time as myself, did also. Staff had always been fine with it, checking in later or upon exiting. On this day, a rude old woman built like a bowling ball, came upstairs and kept waving her arms at me to break my concentration, stepping directly in front of the machine I was on, causing a scene in front of a full gym. She seemed giddy, sarcastic and excited to keep telling me to go back and check in or she’d have me “removed”, that it “shouldn’t be a problem if (I) had a membership”, taunting me, clearly excited thinking she’d found someone without a membership to take out her life frustrations on. I normally came at night I said, then I apologized and said I didn’t realize it was an issue so long as I checked in at some point, to which she said “all of the night crew are being fired.” I said “why would you tell me that lady? Before you’ve told them I’m guessing? Do you even work here?” She was rude, loud, and unprofessional, (and made a spectacle so personally I’d like to add that she also smelled bad and her caked-on layers of makeup looked to have been done by a mortician, but that’s neither here nor there). She conducted herself in such a no-class, trashy manner and in front of everyone, putting on a show of it. After checking in, did I get an apology? Nah. Of course not. She likely had left her apologies in the pocket of her other pair of over-stretched dirty sweat pants. Several fellow gym-goers commented to me how appalled they were by what she’d just done, an entirely unprofessional display. They also shorted me by three days on my second week pass. And, I was told that I may not get my $20 refund from the accidental charge, because it “doesn’t show the charge on their end”, further saying “it must have already refunded”. It showed on their end - I called and checked just the day before and was told again to come in while a managers in for a refund. I also submitted the receipt, plus a copy of the charge from my bank, plus a statement from my bank stating that I’d never at any time, ever received a refund from EOS, not ever. None the less, still no refund which, combined w/my second week having been cut short puts EOS in violation of CA Civil Codes: § 1770(a)(14) § 1770(a)(5) § 1812.85 *Update Mon July 7th, owner responded below. I emailed. Been a week, no reply. And still no refund of the $20. I supplied them w/irrefutable evidence that they charged me and have not refunded it; they have nothing stating they refunded it; but because it vanished in their system, I don’t get a refund? Sounds like theft, fraud,...
