We had an amazing time during our excursion with Andres. He picked us up from Old San Juan and he stopped along the way to get some delicious local coffee from a coffee truck on the side of the road. He also stopped for us to admire gigantic avocado trees, mangos, and many other fruit trees that I have never seen in my life. My children, 15 and 17, loved the cliff jump. I did it as well, but not the most challenging one : ) After a short hike, we arrived at the river and waterfall. Andres gave us all the time to enjoy the quiet part of the river as well as the part that leads to the waterfall. You may even swim under the waterfall to explore the river. My husband and son did it but my daughter and I couldn't do it. The current was too strong for us. We learned that Andres is a musician and composer, he shared a couple of beautiful songs with us and taught my daughter how to play an instrument made out of a local gourd. I highly recommend this excursion. Andres is a wonderful person, very knowledgeable of the region and passionate about the...
Read moreWe were five adults - two first time visitors to PR, two experienced snow birds, and one resident of Old San Juan who has lived here for 30 years. So a mix of experience and familiarity with what is Puerto Rico. Our day spent with Andreas could not have been better!! We were picked up on time, the car was comfortable, the day was beautiful. Everything one could hope for. We traversed the island and rose into the center to visit a small coffee grower who was warm, wonderful and very informative. It was a gorgeous location and the coffee was very tasty. Then we walked down to a charco - a swimming hole - where we had a refreshing dip in the fresh water. Another gem of the Puerto Rican landscape. On our return to San Juan we toured Yauco at dusk with its amazing community art mural project. We saw distinctive, special, and beautiful aspects of Puerto Rico that would be hard to find without a warm, passionate, experienced and highly knowledgable guide. And that is what we had in Andreas. We highly recommend Atabey Tours. Sam...
Read moreAndrés showed us some beautiful places with his Magical Mystery Tour, and turned us on to some of the wonderful intricacies of Puerto Rico's rainforest ecology. His grasp of the rainforest biology as well as his knowledge of the rich history of the people of Puerto Rico, going back into the time that the Taino were dominant in the Caribbean, only filled our afternoon with more questions! Be ready for down and dirty hiking through the rainforest: mud, slippery rocks, fast and deep wading through the swift river, and a wonderful swim at the end, jumping off a cliff into the river. (There's a hose to wash the mud off your shoes at the end). Don't expect to stay dry. Bring a ziplock bag for your phone. And maybe a change of clothes to leave in the car. You'll experience a fascinating afternoon. Thank you...
