During my recent visit to Sedona, I decided to indulge in a spa experience based on a glowing recommendation from my Airbnb host. The anticipation was high as I opted for the highly recommended two-hour body glow massage, priced at $289 before tax. Little did I know that what awaited me was an experience that, while not rushed, fell disappointingly short of expectations.
The spa, nestled in the scenic surroundings of Sedona, exuded tranquility from the outside. However, the promise of relaxation began to unravel as my massage commenced. The delayed start, although acknowledged by the studio with an offered refund, set a somewhat uneasy tone. Nevertheless, I pressed on, hopeful for a rejuvenating experience.
The first notable hiccup surfaced when the masseuse, who seemed friendly and professional but skittish and uncomfortable when she realized I was Black, discovered that the bed heating was not functioning. A sincere acknowledgment and a hope that I would be āokay without the heatingā were offered. While appreciative of her candor, my concerns about potential discomfort, particularly due to my tendency to run cold, lingered.
As the massage progressed, it became evident that the cold hands of the masseuse and the application of cold oil further contributed to an environment less than conducive to relaxation. Despite her apology and assurance that her hands would warm up, the discomfort persisted throughout the session.
What surprised me even more was the use of cold oil during the massage and the body glow treatment. Having experienced a similar massage in British Columbia, Canada, where not only the massage oil but also the body scrub was warmed, the contrast was stark. The lack of attention to such details left me wondering about the overall commitment to providing a truly comfortable experience.
Another notable aspect of my spa experience in Sedona was the absence of communication regarding the massage pressure. Surprisingly, at no point did the therapist inquire about the pressure preference, resulting in an unexpectedly light massage. The lack of engagement in this essential aspect left me deeply unsatisfied and still stiff, as no real pressure was applied throughout the session.
The ambiance of the room played a crucial role, and unfortunately, it was marred by its proximity to the water cooler. Positioned next to it, my massage became a backdrop for staff members to congregate, chat, and catch up. The constant interruptions disrupted the supposed serenity and added an unexpected layer of discomfort.
Although the studio acknowledged the issues and extended a discount, the lingering sense of dissatisfaction remains. The offered reduction brought the cost down to $189, but it felt like a minor consolation considering the myriad challenges faced. This, coupled with the tip for the masseuse, underscored the discrepancy between the experience received and the amount paid.
Adding to the mix, the sensory experience at the spa in Sedona included an overwhelming amount of essential oil fragrance. While some may appreciate the aromatic ambiance, I found it to be excessively potent, bordering on overpowering. The strong scent, combined with the other mentioned issues, further contributed to a less-than-ideal atmosphere for relaxation.
Moreover, the discrepancy between the spaās price point and its physical setting couldnāt be ignored. Housed in a squat and dank building, the studioās surroundings seemed mismatched with the premium experience one might expect at the given cost. The disconnect between the elevated price and the less-than-inviting ambiance added another layer of disappointment to an already underwhelming visit.
In conclusion, despite the absence of a rushed feeling, the overall ambiance, cold elements, and disruptions left me yearning for the promised relaxation. The studioās attempts at reconciliation fell short, and I find it challenging to wholeheartedly recommend this particular...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place was is nice in terms of availability. But the woman who messaged me was a bit heavy set which genuinely is not a problem if I felt like I was still getting the same message as my partner.
I booked a 2 hour couples massage. We started with the feet for a half hour and I understand her being unable to sit on the floor like my partners masseuse. But Iām short and my feet could hardly touch the water. She took her good ol sweet time starting my massage too. She wanted my foot on her lap and again I totally get it I would want to sit if that was my full time job, but Iām short and she couldnāt physically move closer so that was a problem. Also just comparing her to my partners massage again I donāt feel like I got a very good foot rub message.
When we where laying on the table the other woman asked my partner if he has any injuries or if thereās any areas he wants her to focus on and my girl didnāt ask. And when I tried to tell her she cut me off.
I also understand that a 2 hour massage is longgggg but Iām paying for a 2 hour so thatās what I expect. What I donāt expect is the music to cut off every 15 mins and her having to walk away from me to fix it. I definitely donāt anticipate her to leave her hands on me for several mins and not move them at all.
I told her I like a bit of pressure but no deep tissue and it was the lightest message I have ever had. I have genuinely had better massages at massage envy.
The only reason this place has two stars is because availability (now I understand why) and my partner enjoyed his massage the day of. However later that night he was in a TON of pain near his ribs/scapula. He told her his shoulders are always filled of knots and asked her to put some focus on them and he said she after she didnāt really touch them.
I had to spent 1.5 hours in a few spot that night because somehow he got a worse knot after the fact.
I also told my masseuse that I was having lower back pain and my shoulders were hurting because Iāve been doing a lot of Chaturangaās and again she hardly focused on those areas that I specifically noted.
I donāt know Iām crazy to believe that if I am paying someone for two hours of a massage and I want them to massage my back for the entire two hours I donāt think thatās too...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI received a deep tissue massage and the masseuse was professional and did a DECENT job for TWO HOURS. Sedona, Az is a tourist town, so you are going to pay double or triple on prices for ordinary work. We were on our honeymoon and we booked this out of state a month prior and had several phone calls with them because their online wasnāt working. Day of the service we get a call that the one thing I wanted had to be done in conjunction with a different service. Frustrating but said okay we will just go with the 2 hour massage. My wife check in and find out her services were also not in there correctly. The employees had to talk to managers to see if they can change it but had the audacity to say they had a 48 hr change/cancellation policy and my wife says, "Did that not apply when you called me 30 min before our appt to say you canāt do what I was signed up for a month prior?" Thankfully they made the changes but that def left a bad taste in our mouth. They do advertise cheapest in Sedona and from what I researched. They are however $600 for services between me and my wife was steep for mediocre services. My wife got the head to toe glow and her body scrub was nice and her facial was good. Not $300 good but you are paying for the āSedonaā experience. Save your money and go to a place outside of Sedona or a fancy place back home. You arenāt missing anything luxurious! Also always make sure you know EXACTLY the charges. Because they tend to over charge and expect more mola out of you. My personal opinion avoid getting massages in Sedona and wait on a massage and go to a town or city where prices are not overly priced and pay a decent price for a an...
