This is a decent trail for being located near downtown. I think signage still needs to be improved if your coming from the park but I digress... There a few branches of the trail, depending on how long of a trail youre looking for. They range from .20 mile to 1.9. (I think) The views at the top are very good. You do have to be aware of your surroundings though, as there are fairly regular cougar and rattlesnake sightings depending on the time of year, as well as wasp nests. Joggers, dog-walkers, and bike riders utilize the trail but I wouldn't classify it as a great biking trail. Off leash dog-walking seems to be tolerated as long as the dog is 100% friendly and does not interfere with other people/dogs. On the longer trails, they do get fairly steep in parts so if youre riding a bike, you may be pushing it up hills in some parts. (Unless youre in fantastic shape) The trail can be accessed from a short walk from Rotary Park or at the end of...
Read moreHow many cities have a beautiful trail like this inside town? This is an easy hike, with a superb view of downtown Sonora when you get to the top. There are two places to park, one that will place you right near the middle of the trail and closer to the hike up the hill, and another further down that will have you hike a little through a nice residential area until you reach the trailhead. This isnt a difficult hike and the path is wide and well managed. There are spots along the way to take breaks if you need to. When you get to the top you have a nice view and a spot to sit and relax until you make your way back down. The trail has two ways to get to the top. We generally take the switchbacks to the top then head back down on the other path. Dogs on leashes are allowed. The trail generally has people on it and feels safe. Take some water in the summer...
Read moreTook my family out to go on a hike here. The trails is easy enough for kids to finish. The path is covered with canopies of trees, so we did not feel the heat of the sun as we trekked. There's a branching path up along where you can choose to go to the summit or go back down. If you're up to it, I would suggest to go up the summit and complete the experience. We finished the trail in two hours. So prepare about two hours worth of story to keep your kids entertained while they trek. Don't forget your water. One thing to watch out for is that the start of the trail points towards the parking lot. This is actually correct, If you follow the paved path, you'll eventually reach the dirt trail. I'd like to mention that there's a park with a restroom down the road from where you...
