A Gem in Sonora: The Armory Experience
Nestled in the heart of Sonora, California, The Armory stands out as a must-visit destination for locals and travelers alike. During my recent stay at Hotel Lumberjack, I couldn't resist the allure of this charming establishment, conveniently located just across from Sonora Inn. With a warm ambiance and an array of enticing offerings, The Armory exceeded all expectations.
Upon entering, I was greeted with a welcoming atmosphere and impeccable service. As a guest of Hotel Lumberjack, I was delighted to receive a generous 10% discount, making my experience even more enjoyable.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the divine cocktails served at The Armory. Each sip was crafted with precision and bursting with flavor, elevating my afternoon to new heights. Accompanying these delightful libations was a platter of nachos that quickly became a favorite. Loaded with savory toppings and crispy tortilla chips, it's no wonder they're a must-try for any visitor.
But the indulgence didn't stop there – The Armory's giant pretzel truly lived up to its name. Served fresh and piping hot, it was the perfect accompaniment to my drinks, and its generous size ensured that no appetite went unsatisfied.
Whether lounging on the second-floor deck, taking in the sights and sounds of Sonora, or mingling at the open space and inside bar, every moment at The Armory felt like a true escape. The attentive staff and inviting atmosphere left me eager to return time and time again.
In conclusion, The Armory in Sonora, California, is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Read moreThe restaurant is beautiful, but that's the only good thing. Service was mediocre, nothing exceptional. The first Chimichuri shrimp appetizer was great and the first round of drinks were served quickly. The second round took more than 30 minutes (only one drink). We ordered the steak+frites, twice baked Mac n cheese and ceasar salad for dinner. The menu says Mac n cheese is with pene pasta. No it is not, it's just Kraft Mac n cheese, microwaved in a bowl. Salad was not a ceasar salad, it was a bowl of ceasar dressing with a few pieces of lettuce thrown on top. That was my wife's order that she sent back and requested another order of the shrimp instead. Unfortunately it was not even close to the first order, so they definitely have some consistency issues. The waffle fries and gorgonzola balsamic on the steak+frites was delicious, but the steak is not a nice med rare filet mignon. It was cooked to extra well done and uneatable. I'm not convinced it was filet mignon either, think it was an overcooked new York. Got the brownie and ice cream for dessert. The Brownie was way too dense and so dry I could feel it sucking the moisture out of my body. Overall extremely disappointing just like every other restaurant in this town, and the whole state for that matter. Will not be back. Do not believe the positive ratings, those are from locals who don't know what a decent restaurant is or what food is supposed to taste like. Word of advice to the owners, stop hiring strung out tweakers to be your line cooks. Will not be back to this...
Read moreThis place is not only a TON OF FUN with a great atmosphere both inside and out, they have a great selection of beers on tap including hard to finds ones like Pliny the Elder AND a whiskey shelf that would satisfy even the most refined imbibers in their Bourbon Barrel room. Seriously, I had no idea this place existed and just happened across it as we passed through town but now, my wife and I will always make it a point to stop here anytime we make our way up and down HWY 49. I should note, this place was crowded even for lunch and for the most part, it was filled with a more youthful customer base but there were still people of all ages here. Also, for those of you with 4 footed friends, I was happy to see that dogs were allowed in the outside patio area which of course, is way cool to hang out in with it's lovely beer tap water fountain. The bar is very large with plenty of seating and the bartenders are super nice but there are high tops and benches you can chill at as well with a group of friends and even lounge chairs and sofas along the back wall. Of course, if you prefer to be served, there are tables available up on the mezzanine that waiters attend to and there are tables inside as well but really, on a nice summer day, outside is where you want to be. On our visit, I had the chimmichuri shrimp tacos and my wife had the short rib ones with a salad and everything tasted delicious! Need I say, I would highly recommend this place to anyone who lives in or are passing...
