Stayed 12/29/18 for 2nights mainly due to last minute availability to get away and to visit the Sierras for a bit of snow (plus everything dog friendly was booked). Chosen due to being dog friendly and ease of access to hwy 108 and various other sights. We have stayed before on long road trips but have never really found it to be ideal, other than price & staff being uber friendly, kind and generous.||||We were placed in a room behind the motel. Convenient to unpack and park. Outside there was a 'parked' car (with 4 flats & cobwebs, obviously not moved for a while) & further down a pick up parked which looked like a homeless truck, full to the brim, hood slightly ajar as though being worked on, car parts under it.... The rooms closest to this truck seemed to have 'permanent' residents in them (or so it seems). Somewhat loud as folks decided to chat outside their rooms at 2300 hrs, (not unusual for motels) having a beer, but without concern for other guests.||||Walking the dogs we came across a guy sitting on a patch of grass at the back of the motel drinking beer (early a.m.) friendly, but we felt uncomfortable. Again walking the dogs in the a.m. a female was overheard yelling at her partner in a room, then came outside to question us re whether "we could hear those women speaking", there were no other people present at the time of her asking ..... it was like experiencing a mini psych unit. Over all it was just an uncomfortable atmosphere.||||The room was basic, VERY basic, which seems to be the case for most pet parents. Plus you get the privilege of paying for your dog(s) to stay but with absolutely no amenities for them. The room did have coffee, microwave and fridge, the bed had sheets (one stained) one blanket and a small decorative strip of material at the foot of the bed, but was small for us all. First impression was it’s ok but on further inspection not so. Please see PHOTOS ... front desk check in was helpful and only charged us for one night versus two,for our 4 medium size doggies, and we were very appreciative of...
Read moreMy family and I stayed with the Sonora Gold Lodge and we were thoroughly disgusted with the room. The floor was so stained and smelled sooo bad, I think the carpet is at least 20 years old. The beds were filthy, the actual mattress was very dirty. The bathroom floor was caving in around the toilet. We thought it was going to fall threw. The towels were very stained and sheets dirty. The a/c is held up by duct tape and no knobs to change the settings. The pool was green and gross!!! They advertise a pool and spa but they were both closed, and look like they had not been used in years. There was no soap, or shampoo available as well. The room smelled like it had something rotting in it somewhere. Also, when I called I was told a lower rate than the one charged on arrival. I think it was because all other motels were sold out. The bathroom window had no screen on it and I could not open the window for air. It is very obvious that the rooms have suffered neglect for many years. The water was luke warm at best. My child ended up sleeping with me with the lights on to try and prevent getting bit by bugs. We would have stayed somewhere else but all was sold out and it was a family emergency. I would NEVER stay there again or suggest it to anybody I know. The customer service was the only positive thing. The manager explained the owners were getting ready to remodel the place, I suggest they bull doze it to the ground and start all over. I have never wrote a review before, but this motel was so bad, if I had to do all over again I would have had myself and my child sleep in my van. When I asked for a partial refund, I was told they would credit 20.00 to my card and it never happened. I would not even take my dog there to stay...
Read moreI don't recommend coming here at all, the rooms were really bad quality. I have no idea where to even start. The room made an okay first impression, but then it all went down. The room smelled so bad that we thought someone had forgotten to flush the toilet. So we ventilated the room for a good hour, if not more. We were terrified to even touch anything in the bathroom. The shower wasn't bad, but it was still untouchable. We all showered in flip-flops out of fear of getting an infection. The only pro about the bathroom was that the toilet seat was comfortable. Now, onto the room, the beds were okay and comfortable, but some of the sheets had burn marks. We didn't really look at the floor, so I won't leave a comment on it. The walls were filthy and don't even get me started on the ventilation grille, it was disgusting and dirty, i dont think anyone has ever cleaned it. It was full of dust, and it was kinda rusty. The TV was working, but barely, it kept turning on and off from time to time, and it even glitched once and wouldn't stop for a few minutes. The sink was really low, so it was difficult to wash my face, and there was something disgusting coming out of it. Overall, i really dont recommend wasting your money on this place. This comes from the 6 of us who stayed here. I don't think i'll ever come back to sonora because...
