Rock House Discount Ski & Snowboard Rentals — Attraction in South Lake Tahoe

This is a friendly local place that's located right on the way up to the base of Heavenly Ski Resort. My experience started a couple of weeks before our trip with a phone call that was helpful about more than just ski rental. When we went to the store, I was greeted by two young women with smiles on their faces. When I had questions they though could be better answered by someone else, they brought out the owner who was very knowledgeable and more than happy to let me take up his time. Our skiing was cut short by some really bad weather, so we returned the skis early and were accommodated with absolutely no hassles. My big disappointment was not getting to ski the "Ferrari" skis the owner had hand-tuned and waxed when I picked them up. These guys were great. Not really sure this is the best place to rent gear... Don't get me wrong, the staff is SUPER nice, but not in the slightest bit helpful. I went in to rent a board, boots, and a helmet. Being new to the sport, I asked for guidance about how the boots should fit, but no one was remotely interested in helping or explaining. Should I have room, should they be tight? I had no idea, and I ended up walking out crossing my fingers.

Beyond the lack of assistance, I'm not sure their gear is the most sanitary. I watched as people returned boots and the employees did a cursory spray over the top of them. Eww. No wonder my boots smelled like death warmed over BEFORE I ever wore them.

Visiting from Atlanta, I went here after I turned in my ski rentals at Heavenly because I was looking for something with much better quality rentals at a more affordable price. As soon as my girlfriend and I walked in we were greeted with a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. They helped us with fitting and the boots were much better fitting and comfortable than where we previously rented. Was planning on skiing for 4 days but our trip got cut short because of a blizzard rolling through. We turned in our rentals early and they gave us complimentary days for rentals when we return!
